Loading the 6x47 Lapua

I recently had a 26" 8 tw 6mm Kreiger barrel chambered in 6x47 Lapua. The PT&G reamer measured .273 at the neck. Am I correct in my thinking that I can simply use my Redding type "S" 6.5x47 neck die with a .268 bushing and not have to purchase a addition sizing die. I realize I'll still need to purchase a seating die to stabilize the neck to avoid excessive bullet run out. I ran one case through this set up and the loaded round measured .269/270 after I seated a Vmax 87gr bullet into a dummy case. I haven't yet screwed the barrel on the action but it seemed to be a little snug in the chamber. I'm not sure if it's was just because the chamber seems a little short as there was lands marks on the bullet. I'm wanting to use this barrel in the prairie dog fields and surely want to avoid neck turning brass. Your suggestions and advice will be appreciated.

RJ,

I think your newly sized cases are probably bottoming out in the neck shoulder junction area of chamber.

When initially resizing from 6.5 to 6 mm, I have to set my die back an additional .010 to .012 to get bolt to close smoothly.

I think there is extra spring back in brass at shoulder/neck.,lot of brass to move)

I am using Neil Jones full length sizing die.,very nice)

Hope this helps

Scott

From my experience, there was enough of a false shoulder left over that it pretty much needed to be turned. That was not a bad thing in the end because I found the neck concentricity to be really poor; trimming solved that nicely.
