loading 30x47

rifle is being built. any suggestions as to where to start with loads? twist will be 17, and plan to start with 125gr 10X.

Is your 30X47 the one made on the 300 Savage case with the shoulder moved back about 10 thousands and the case left the same OAL as the 300 Savage? I picked up one like this a couple of years ago from a widow of a man that had the rifle built around 25 years ago. He had it built to shoot hunter class bench rest and then he died just a few weeks after receiving it. It is on a Ruger 77 action in a factory, bedded) Ruger wood stock with a Canjar trigger I think. It has a heavy varmint 24 inch CM 1 N 12 twist barrel that I do not know the maker of. I have not tried any of the light match bullets yet in it. I have had the best accuracy with 155 to 168 gr Nosler and Sierra match bullets. It also shoots 150 Sierra Pro hunters very well and 125 Nosler ballistic tips very well. I have been using it to kill deer with. So far the best powders I have found for velocity and accuracy are IMR 4895 and Varget. This rifle has a long enough throat that you can seat a 168 Sierra MK 10 thousands off the lands and the base of the bullet will be even with where the neck section of the case stops and the shoulder starts so you get a full case for powder. My best accuracy comes with a slight compressed load of 41 grs Varget with the 168 Sierra MK or 42 grs IMR 4895 and the 155 Nosler custom comp, 150 Sierra pro hunter or 125 Nosler Ballistic tip. I have used WW 300 Savage cases and Federal 308 cases to make my 30X47 cases and I can't tell any difference in accuracy between them out to 300 yards which is the limit to the range I have to shoot on. The only difference in the cases is that I don't need to turn the case necks of the 300 Savage cases but do need to turn the Federal 308 cases. One thing about this rifle is that the worst groups with any load I have ever tried have been under 1 1/4 for 5 shots at 100 yards. This caliber is just plain accurate. With the 168 Sierra MK it shoots between .432 to .474 outside to outside 5 shot groups at 100 yards. It shoots about as good with 42 grs IMR 4895 and 155 Nosler Custom Comp bullets. I do have one group that goes .372 with this bullet. I just got some 125 Speer TNT's that I am going to try out to see if they would make a good groundhog load.
