I have been having luck with 27.9 gr of Varget under 105 VLDs 1-8 twist, and can't seem to better it at 300 yd. I have done the ladder test going up, with no luck. Is this going to fall apart on me?

What speed you getting?
2800-2850ish is a really happy place it seems for 6BR and BRA without any worries of pressure.

As stated above, your having luck short range with your listed load, What are your average short range group sizes? You should be in the 0.5 moa or better at 100 yds which would give you respectable 300 yd. groups. . 27.9 gr of Varget should give you slightly higher velocities in the low 2600 fps range than a very good low speed accuracy node at 2550 . I agree wholeheartedly with the previously stated 6br accuracy node around 2800 to 2850. My rifle which is a 1;7.5 twist shoots 105 VLD’s over 30 gr Varget between 2832 and 2840 fps. I’ve found that the VLD’s shoot quite well but are seating depth sensitive because of their Ogive design. As an example, with a 30 Varget charge, I have to jump my 107 Sierras .035-045 but the VLD’s like just touching the lands to .015 jump. These numbers are from a rifle with approximately 1400 rounds down the tube. And yes, I religiously scrub my barrel after every F class match. Keep plugging at it and you should attain your expectations.

I worked up a load with my 6mmBR with Varget and found the best results between 29.9 and 30.3 so I started right in the middle at 30.1 till I had proven that load. Speeds were in the mid 2800's and shot some terrific targets from 300m to 1000 yards with the Berger 105 VLD's in the lands 10 thou. Since then I just tweak it a few kernels up if the its really cold. ie 30.15 I did test to 30.5 but had some hard bolt lift so it was too hot and I see no reason to exceed 30.3 in this rifle as that is what it liked. I worked up a load for the SMK107's and they liked it around 29.9gr Varget but not shot that in a match yet. Good luck

How high did you go on your ladder test?
If you are using bushing dies, I'd adjust for light neck tension, moly your bullets, then do a soft-seat jam, achieved by seating about .020" long. The moly will help to prevent the possibility of powder dumps in your action if you have to extract a live round and the bullet might otherwise stick. The in-the-lands bullet placement will help to overcome concentricity issues and ensure consistent seating depth once chambered. Then I'd work up your ladder from where you are now. Your best grouping will likely come at a higher charge rate. If you don't see improvement, I'd try Reloader 15 or another powder - or a Lapua 105 Scenar L bullet. Those 6BR's "usually" like these. I'd run your load up till you see the first signs of pressure - then back off 1 1/2 grains if you found something. If you never found accuracy with that powder/bullet - I'd not waste more time and energy. I'd change it up with different components. That soft-jamb can really make a difference when everything else was tried. good luck!
