Load development help, factory 700 in 223

I know you are asking for reloading help here, but since some of the advice given has been bedding the stock and such this is what I did with my stock 700 after my first range session.

I took the barreled action out of the stock, changed the trigger (Jewell), then put it back into the original stock and carefully torqued the screws to spec. Just doing this cut my groups in half on my next range session.

Your groups have potential, so this might be something to try.

Still as new factory actions such as Remington’s 700 are shipped likely already warped somewhat from heat treatment beings why they won’t exactly fit even stocks equipped with what should’ve been a near perfectly machined aluminum bedding block.

Bolting the action to any inletting it doesn’t exactly fit introduces stresses into both the action and the stock by forcing the two's slightly differing shapes into bending to conform to one another. Not 'cool'.

OK so last weekend I bedded the action, and floated the barrel, tonight I'm going to load up some 55gr BlitzKings in once fired Lapua brass, might try some 40s and 50s. Also have a bunch of nosler 40gr BT. Be interesting to see how much bedding and floating my barrel will effect accuracy.

Please keep us informed. Throw the 64 grain Berger on your "to try" list. I am in the flatbase clan also.

Ok, loaded 55gr blitzkings and 40gr blitzkings. I'm gonna have to order some mag primers.

all loaded to 2.260.

Heres the pics of groups for 55gr BKs.

I wasn't in a good mood at all and it may have an impact on these groups. Stupid Drivers License renewal place guy called in sick, and the next appointment I can get is March 30, 18 days after my license expires. Then got home and my dumbass brother was here. had to run that methhead off. Anyways, I do appreciate all the replies guys. Maybe I'll load up some 52gr matchkings tonight, but I doubt it. just in a crappy mood.

CCI 450 parts the Red Sea on this load! ... Those with ears, let them hear, more than a few Remington 700's shoot this load very well ... cci 450 absolutely seals the deal! Can you feel me on the 450?

So, ... you're saying you like the CCI 450?

Morning all, need some input on load development for my 223. Using new Lapua brass, 55gr BlitzKings, CCI br primers and xbr 8208.

Last weekend I worked up my powder charge, and looks like the middle of the node is 24.5gr 8208.

So this weekend I loaded some rounds at 24.5gr of 8208, different lengths and these were the best ones.
1.885 cbto

1.875 cbto

Lands are at 1.891cbto, so I started at 1.890 and went down to 1.870 cbto which was almost saami oal. I was confident in all my shots, but I did not sort these bullets. Would sorting bullets make much of a difference you think? What would you do from here?

I'm looking for a good go to prairie dog load, something I can load 500 rounds at a time.

Using Redding premium deluxe dies.

Thanks in advance!

Before you spend any more time and money.......the various factory Rem 700(s) that I own absolutely hate boat tail bullets and nothing faster than H4895. Varget and IMR 4064 get phenomenal results with Sierra 53 SMK and 55 SPT bullets from a 1 in 12 twist. Hope this helps.

Well, neither of my Rem 700s have any problems with BT bullets. Doesn't make sense to me that they would. I've also had superb results in 223 Rem with two powders faster than H4895 - H322 and H335. Others have cited Benchmark as well. But, that's what makes horse races, hey?

This was my around the upper weight of my initial load development with 69 gn SMK with CFE-223 , Fed 210M primers and Hornady brass for my Rem 700 223 5R milspec. Think it was near 0.17 MOA @ 100yds. Like I said ...initial load development, so only 3 rounds for each powder weight in my routine for development. I am fairly new to the reloading scene and I have tons to learn yet too. Started to amass my reloading gear about a year ago as well as scrounge the books and internet for related info on the subject in general. Have Hornady classic press, and mostly Hornady Dies currently. Nothing special from what I've garnered from the web. That was late last November, It's been 4 months since I've been able to get out ...getting nicer out again so I should be able to get out plinking and tinkering again soon.
