Little cleaning trick

While cleaning my rifle today I thought I would share a convenient way of capturing the mess coming out of the muzzle.... A spring clip and a quart freezer bag make an awesome patch trap .. And when you are done just zip shut and toss in the trash. Has worked wonders for me, reduces the smell and I have to yet dissolved a bag even after cleaning multiple rifles using various cleaning compounds ... I haven't seen this idea anywhere, my bad if someone has posted this earlier.

I use an empty Listerene bottle & throw away when full.

I use a 2L plastic water bottle. Catches all the patches and muck spraying out the muzzle. When it's mostly full of patches I put the cap on and bin it.

Cardboard box on floor with some newspapers in it. Always have some boxes to throw away.

I cut the top off a 8lb jug. Cut a notch down one end that the barrel fits in.

I keep random items of all sorts below the muzzle of my rifles when I clean them. That way the mess and solvents can do the maximum amount of damage, with me not generally finding out until I dig a specific item out of the pile at a later date.

My cleaning cradle is on top of roll around tool chest and patches drop right into the trash can between the tool chest and my loading bench.

I had been doing this for years and thought nothing of it. I did tell a few people at the gun club about it.

This year I got the MTM Gun Cleaning Patch Catcher because of less plastic at the dump/garbage.

It works great too.

I don't know about that -- I come from the generation and economic class who washes and re-uses zip-loc bags. I suppose I could justify it if the bag has been used two or three times previously.

Absolutely! Especially freezer ziplock bags...then, there those paper towels that will dry just fine
