there are as many dehumidifiers as gun powder. Like to know what brnads/ models members have that work. I f you have one to recommend thanks.

It's pretty spendy and could be overkill for your needs, but I have the Sante Fe dehumidifier and it does the whole house, or as much of it as you would like and unlike the big box store stuff, it's still working like brand new five years later. I couldn't recommend it more. No electronics to go south on you either. Ask if you have any questions.

well that looks like top of the line.

I reload in my garage like a lot of people. I live in Florida and fight heat/cold and humidity. So last year I put in a Mitsubishi Split AC/Heat pump and my humidity is at an average 41% year round now. The AC makes the garage bearable in the Summer, and the heat pump warms it nicely in the winter. Total cost installed was under 2K and it gave me another room to work in.

I loaded for years in my basement and had a Sears free standing unit about 18"x24" which had a tray to dump or a drain pipe - which ever you needed, it never failed and kept the humidity very low year round.

I would like a small free standing unit I can place in the closet where my gun safe is located. with so many to choose I figured members might have some brand/model recommendations

LE makes a decent one, bought at Home Depot. It's best to set up to free drain if possible, dumping the bucket plain sucks. If you forget to dump, I think you make things worse.

I have a White Wing Defender, looks to be the same as the Santa Fe "Classic". Mine is 3 years old and has worked perfectly.

Linko, if it's going in a closet just use the dehumidification rods. All you need to do is raise the temperature of the closet/gun safe a bit. I researched dehumidifier a few years back. For a garage or a non climate controlled area Store bought units like LG last a year or three ( my 1st one lasted a year). Tired of replacing them so I went with a ductless unit for the garage for a/c & heat. Humidity stays at or below 50%. I don't have the safe in the garage, but it is where I have all of my shooting equipment, reloading and archery bench. I do use a browning dehumidification rods in my safes and they work well.
