Light Weight 300 WM loading

Ok.... scenario that was brought up sitting around in the reloading room with friends and a jar of liquid courage later..... What kind of loads could you make utilizing light weight bullets in the 300WM? I looked at some manuals and found a few 125gr loads and a couple 110gr loads. We had been loading some 300WM heavy loads and also 300 blackout supersonic rounds with the 110TTSX . Thought the 110 TTSX in the 300WM might be fun and well I want some opinions

Has anyone done this? I mean with a screamin' fast 110 out of the 300WM could be very fun in certain cases.

Anyone played with those light 300WM loads chasing speed?

Where I live, barrels are not just expensive, but also a real pain in the you-know-what to obtain, so instead of burning out my barrel on my WM with light bullets, I bought another rifle that shoots the lighter bullets more optimally :)

Of course, not everyone is so unfortunate, so go for it - lightest I ever tried were 155gr, but between Hodgdon, IMR and Winchester powders, you literally have 13 known recipes for 110gr Spear bullets. Barnes lists at least 6 powders for 300WM using 110 TTSX.

I have been doing this for years. Not the 110ttsx but 130ttsx. I started doing this for my daughter. When she was 15 she drew a good bull tag and really wanted a tikka t3 lite in 300 wsm I had bought for backpack hunting. Problem was the recoil with the 180s I was shooting was impossible for her to shoot. I had read a article about the new 130ttsx and they had taken it to Africa and had amazing results so I bought a box and wow what a great bullet. She was able to shoot these extremely well and killed a nice 5 point bull at 280 yards and it was bang flop. Since then I have tried lightweight mono bullets in all my hunting rifles and found the light recoil and flat trajectory perfect for our hunting uses. You can shoot completely threw both shoulders of big bucks and bulls with hardly any meat loss and with no front shoulders they don't take a step in steep canyon country.

A few years ago, Richard Franklin, a well known gunsmith, was proposing the .300 WSM loaded with lightweight bullets in his rifles with a slow twist. It was a very successful idea:

There's no reason the same idea can't be applied to the .300 Win. Mag. The difference with be that the Win. Mag will be less efficient when compared to the WSM. Most of the ideas revolve around the 125 grain bullets. But substituting the 110 gr. TTSX you might get it up to 3,800+ with a shorter barrel.

Enjoy!
