300 PRC light loads?

I want to load some light 300 PRC loads and the lightest load data published is 178 gr. Looking to load 150 -160 gr bullets. Has any got any experience with this?

Being no expert on the subject of light bullets in the 300 PRC, I'd say it was designed for the 200+ grain bullets in ELR. While I've never heard of light bullets shot in one, it is doable. I think if you had a 10 twist or slower, you'd be ok. Pushing the 150/160 grain bullet from a 300 PRC is like pushing a 40 grain from a 22-250 AI. I'd say twist being too fast will see the bullet coming apart. I'd probably do an RPM calculation before running them. Keeping it under 300K you'd probably be good. That PRC has to push those 150/160 grain bullets nearly 3400 fps. If not real close. Seems like you'd still be way under 300K with even a 9 twist pushing a bullet 3400 fps. Right around 270k and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the 300 wm tip. Looks to be with in a grain or so.

Barrel is a 1:9. I primarily shoot steel but though it might be fun to make some laser beams.

You can use the load data from the .300 Weatherby and they show light bullets down to 125 grains. I shoot hunting style bullets weighing 150 grains in mine with no problems because the barrels I use are either 1:11.25" or 1:10" which are standard. Even in the 1:9" the RPMs only run 276,000 so no worries!:D

Here is the Nosler data for the .300 Weatherby:

Note that the 'case capacity' for each bullet is with that bullet seated, not the total case capacity.
