Light Hearted Humor

Gotta tell this one . I'm putting an extractor back into a Barnard bolt and the little spring thingy does its' thing and I heard it hit the wall 15 ft away . Now at the time my shop looked like Fordow and Chernobyl combined and low and behold it is lying in the middle of the floor in the only open 2 ft .square area !!

For anyone who has ever spent 2 minutes to launch a spring that took only (hopefully) 4 hours to find (if at all). :D

Last fall while working on some cases, I dropped my chamfer-deburring on the workshop floor.
I heard it hit and roll under the counter which was packed with boxes of brass, extra rags, spray cans, powder bottles, etc., etc. A cursory search turned up nada.

About a month ago I did a major swamp out-clean up of the shop including that area. I checked every box and container for the tool, but found nothing. Although it's now down to a few powder bottles and a box with clean rags, the tool was never found.

My Dad always blamed "a crack in the Universe" as being the reason something gets permanently lost. Maybe he was onto something? :)

I once had a custom built 1911 in 38 Super.
had it apart for a good cleaning one day and during reassembly the custom fitted barrel bushing went into unmanned space flight. I looked for hours and finally just installed a "spare" bushing. Finally found it when me moved out of that house about 4 years later.

Once upon a time while assembling a 1911 in my dark basement, the mainspring cap shot straight up, I heard it hit the ceiling.
I never did find it until 2 years later I shined a light up between the joists & there it was, it had hit open end up with enough force to stick in the wood.

One day, I was struggling a bit to install a spring into a spring/air pellet rifle. This was something I normally would never touch but I always made exceptions for kids. Anyway, one of my customers was watching my efforts and finally asked if he could try. I told him to go ahead and stood back. He bent to the task and pretty soon he had the spring seated and had started the cap. He stepped back proudly and I stepped forward to have a look; just in time to see the cap fly off. That is, I think I saw it. Visible or not, it hit me right between the eyes, though a tad high. I didn't go down, but I may have staggered a bit. The trickle of blood was easily stopped with a Band-Aid. The bump went away with time. WH
Is he still your customer?

His intentions were good. With this happening 47 years ago, I'm not sure he's even alive.
We've pretty well established that springs can be diabolical in nature. It seems that they not only store energy, but also store resentment against humanity in general and gunsmiths in particular. Springs are not the only inanimate objects which seems to have a mind of their own; there are others. One which comes to my mind is barbed wire. I'll explain.
It was just last weekend that I was headed up to the campground to help one of the tenants with a deck. I was carrying a couple of bars and a box of screws. The gate was locked and I didn't want to set the load down, so I elected to step over the fence. There is a place right next to the gate, where the elk have stretched out the top wire and I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. With just a little effort, I figured I could step across easily. My lead leg (the left) cleared easily and in one smooth motion I brought right leg up to follow. What happened next can be explained in one of two ways, and I'll get to that in a minute.
I guess the easy way to say it is that my right leg didn't make it. In fact, looking back, it didn't even come close. My foot hit the top wire, and I lost my balance. I tried to stand on one foot, but it wasn't working. My right foot went down on the outside of the top (4th) wire, and on the inside of the third. I managed to get my foot on top of the second wire. but my balance was precarious. I jammed the heavier bar into the ground and managed to stay upright, thereby protecting those portions of my anatomy which seemed, for a moment, to be in serious jeopardy. I finally had to drop the screws and use the second wrecking bar as a prop, and there I was. I couldn't let go of either bar, so I had to try and just lift my leg up and get free of the fence. The barbed wire had snagged my jeans pretty well. To make matters worse, I could hear someone coming up the driveway. I had to get loose before anyone saw the predicament I was in. It was a struggle, but I did get loose just before the car came around the corner.
Now, regarding the reason for the whole problem. I mentioned there were two possible explanations. One explanation might be that I'm just getting older and can't do the things I used to do easily. The second explanation is that wire sensed an opportunity and thrust upward, just in time to catch my foot. I think it's pretty obvious which scenario is most likely. Think about it, diabolical wire, or man in the prime of life, only 76 years old, turning into a klutz and tripping? I blame the wire! WH

I once had a pack rat living under the roof of an addition I had built. I was getting pretty desperate to get rid of him and was starting to think about just shooting up through the ceiling. Luckily, the rat made the mistake of jumping in front of our old cocker spaniel, who ended his torment of her humans.
A while later, I was moving that addition and took the opportunity to take off the roof and clean it out. Where the pack rat had been living, there was a pair of jogging pants, 10 pounds of dog food, and every 9/16" socket I had lost in the last five years. In keeping with the theme of the thread, he also had the throttle return spring from my old Jeep Wagoneer. I had been working on the Jeep a couple years previous and the spring came up missing when I went to put it together. I had to buy another one. WH

I talked to a friend that is a part time Deputy Sheriff tonight and got a true story.
They stopped a high school kid that has been suspected of some drive by shootings of houses. Two guns are in the car, a pistol and a rifle, both suspected to be stolen. His mother comes up and they ask her about the guns. She says they are both hers, she just shot the rifle in a contest the past weekend. It didn't have any sights. When asked about the pistol, she said that was hers too - her son knows better than to use her guns in drive by's. She went to jail along with the son for providing weapons for a minor.

One to use, three to lose!
What is it about 10mm anything. I can't hang on to them. I lost one ratchet spanner out of a set - cant get a similar replacement - now I have a set that the box wont close. cos the replacement in longer. I have 2 socket sets without a 10mm socket. luckily, my car has only half the bolts needing them.
