lf You Had Just ONE BULLET CHOICE for Prairie Dogs??

Apparently some folks didn't bother to read the question since they are posting about the 20 calibers and having a difference of opinion on how 20's perform.
Nothing new. Many folks are much more focused on talking about themselves rather than addressing the subject at hand.

Overall, I'd say the blitzkings are my favorite varmint bullet but Hornady use to make a 6mm 75gr pistol bullet that was devastating on whatever it ran into, at moderate 243/6br speeds . Haven't seen that particular bullet in a long time.

What would it be for 22 cal? Mine is a 40 grain VMAX. They shoot GREAT in just about ALL 22 caliber center fires. They work in my 22-250. They are a NATURAL for 223 Remingtons. 222 Rem loves them too. A 40gr VMAX is ldeal in 221 Fireball. l even shoot them in a 10'' bull barrel TC Contender 22 Hornet. Those 40gr VMAX will even topple a 55 pound IHMSA RAM @ 200 Meters from that Contender with a high hit. Prairie Dogs simply go to PIECES when hit with a 40gr VMAX
Don’t go west of the Mississippi and think they will take over IHMSA rams with any consistency.

I have yet to have one bounce off of a prairie dog ;-). I have been pleasantly surprised how well they shot out of my 1-7.5 twist 223. Couple of buddies have exact same rig and one tried the 40’s great accuracy and speed. I have used Nosler, Sierra and Hornady all with great results out to 300+.

I do not carry one caliber or one gun for shooting varmint. I usually carry at least four. I have a favorite bullet for each caliber, .224, 6mm and 6.5mm all explosive on critters or the ground at velocity so they do not shoot anything in the next county.

The tread title:

I understand what you're saying and I know of no one that travels, especially from Florida with 1 rifle in 1 cartridge.
My bullet caliber choice would be the .224 in Hornaday 53vmax, in my cartridge choice of .223.
I will be taking 3 rifles this year, 2 .223's and 1 6br.

Caveat - I usually shoot from 100 to 300 yards with only the occassional longer shot.

I like either the 40 gr V-Max or Nosler BT. The V-Max does a great job on PD's but sometimes a badger is encountered and the V-Max has been a bit fragile with the heavier muscled badger, so if it had to be just one I could live with the Nosler BT.
