Lexington 1775

Had the colonists weapons been serial numbered and registered, the Brits would've probably succeeded. There's a lesson in there, and our Founding Fathers were keen to remember it when they wrote the Constitution and it's Amendments.

Speaking of Patriots, the NY Yankees quit playing God Bless America by Patriot Kate Smith. Now the Phillie Flyers covered her statue. When will this stop? I`m glad I`m bald or I would be pulling my hair out. GOD please save us from ourselves.

Just a reminder,It all started on this day in 1775. The Brits showed up in Lexington to confiscate the patriots weapons and arrest the leaders.Eight brave patriots died that day. I just wonder?
If you’ve never been to the site of what actually turned out to be the running battles of Lexington and Concord, it’s worth the time IF having a full picture and context of the economic and political factors of that era mean anything. There is nothing like the local venues for presenting this story. I taught U.S. History and American Government courses (off and on for 15 years). I’ve seen most formal “mainstream” electronic media presentations, and read volumes of individual history collections of the events. Nothing made the impact on me that visiting the area and walking the same trail followed by the redcoats between the two villages. If I could recall time I would take every former student to see it firsthand. So much more powerful than anything I could say.

I am a history buff. However, sadly, I have never really studied the American Revolution. Having said that, I am a student of The Civil War. The R-E-A-L reason the Civil War was fought was to DEFEND states rights! That's why you had "The Armies of Virginia", The Armies of Tennessee" etc..etc.. The "states" were a "mini-country" if you will. They believed in and fought for what they perceived was an "out of control" Federal Government. I STILL BELIEVE that the exact same spirit of "Being A Sovereign United States" pervades America! If "they" decide to take arms away from the people, my firm belief would be that an act like that would light the fire of yet another Civil War.

I grew up in the next town over from Lexington. One of my fondest memories is my father waking me at dawn to go and see the re-enactment on Patriots Day. It’s sad that these historical events are overshadowed by the Marathon hype.

It is an absolute shame what has become of this area. It was the birthplace of our Republic, and it has become the very thing the Republic was meant to avoid.
