Leverevolution sub for Varget I'm impressed.

Since I'm a true Dutchman I can't seem to bring myself to use any Varget I have stashed away. I bought some leverevolution powder after seeing it was very close to BLC2 on burn chart.

I have done quite a bit of testing in my AR10t with 168's and 175 SMK's with this powder today and the results surprised me. This stuff flat out shoots in this gun and is by far best I've tried yet.

Anyone looking for a Varget/ RL substitute this might work for ya.

Glad someone else has seen the merits of shooting it in something else besides a Lever gun. Its a short Grain Varget and meters real nice as well. I tried it in my Palma Rifle and against my standard Palma load of 46.5gr Varget, Lapua Brass, CCI BR2, 155 SMK,
I gained 53FPS over the Varget load without any compression do to the smaller grain size and it shot in the .200 with .2 less grains. This was in the summer of 2011 and I posted my results here with not much fan fair. Ill be playing with this a little more in some other projects as well. Maybe now with Varget hard to get some folks will try it out of pure need as the supply of Varget is kinda dry right now.
XBR 8208 comes out and everyone jumps on it... Mention that Leverevolution will do the same thing and folks kinda look at you funny.
Oh well more for me.

I think people can't take it serious because of the cheesy name.

Cool. I went through nearly a pound of it trying to get it to shoot in my 30-30. Never shot as well as IMR3031 and I finally gave up on it. It was good, just not great. Better velocity but I could never get the accuracy. Good to know that someone found another use for it.

Couple things real interesting to me.

First is I "love" the stuff for my 30-30's. The 24" one shoots those 160 FTX bullets at 2,400 and the 20" one at 2,325fps. Both shoot real using both the LVR and the FTX together. Killed two nice 8 pts and a couple does and out to 200 yards.

Now the published burning rates show LVR as slower than Varget. I use a lot of Varget in my Dasher. Gonna try the LVR with a brief test just to chronograph and see. I have to mix lots of Varget to get a consistant one and do have almost ten lbs mixed right now. Not sure I will need the LVR idea but you never know.

Indeed I think this is the exact type of application it would work well with. Meaning that if you have a shorter Freebore and limited case capacity it works well do to its small kernal. 80gr in 223, 185gr in the 308.

Either way i believe its worth a shot... pun intended. Ha!

For what it's worth, I called Hodgdon and asked them about this powder's similarity to Varget. I believe I spoke with Mike. He stated the powders are about as dissimilar as possible while still both being rifle powders. Lever revolution is a ball powder and, he claims, has none of the temperature insensitivity of their Extreme line.

He also stated it is not a variant in any way of Varget.

Thats nice. It still acts much like Varget and is in the same burn rate. It is a small Kernal kinda like XBR8208 Size even though its in there ball powder section.

If it shoots small groups I dont care much for there response. I have shot it and it works. Have You used any?

I haven't shot any of it and I wasn't really disagreeing with anything anyone said in the thread. I just thought it was interesting and semi-relevant. I'd buy some and try it in a heartbeat if i wasn't sitting on a pretty good amount of 8208.

Im sorry, im feeling grumpy today. That was kinda rude I think. Hope you give it a try and im sure you will find what the other posters in this thread have found. Like everyother powder some guns like it and Im sure some will not.

When I said a substitute for Varget I wasn't saying or thinking LV is similar powder. It gives me similar results and for what Varget is selling for if you can find it this may be a good alternative. I see LV on shelves everywhere for sale when almost everything else is sold out.

Glad to see someone has tried this out. I loaded some the other day,in my 308, to try out, but too cold/windy at the range to go and try it.
I know it works very well in my 30-30 Marlin, both for speed and accuracy, and works well in my 356win Marlin.
On my last keg of Varget, might have to get some more LRV.

so has anyone gotten some ES/SD numbers for Lever Revolution ?? Charge Weights?
