leupold vx3 compared to leupold mark 4

Another scope question guys. I want a nightforce but really don't want to spend $1800. Now Im looking at a leupold vx3 8.5-25x50 for $1000 and a leupold mark 4 8.5-25x50 for $1400. Is there a big difference between the 2 or is the mark 4 just a little better? Details please! Thanks!

At the SHOT show one year, I asked a Leupie rep that exact question. He didn't know! We walked over to the Barrett booth to see if they knew! Apparently there is very little difference. You can see some difference in the boss where the turret assembly is but why it is more robust is not clear.

I have a nightforce nxs 5.5-22x56 on a 22-250 ackley and a leupold mark 4 on a 6.5x284 and I actually think the leupold is the better scope of the 2, that's just my opinion but I like it that much I'm replacing the nxs with a mark 4 and putting a mark 4 on my .338....I'd go with the mark 4 mate won't let you down...

You can get a vx 3 4.5-14x40 L.R. for well under $700 it is( I think) one of the best huntting scopes for any price. And it was soo much better than the monarch I took back. But others will not agree on this. All so made with pride in the U.S.A.
