Leupold varix 2 and 3 questions

I have a couple older vari x 2 scopes with the friction adjustments that have suffered from major poi shift and was then repaired under warranty with the descrition “reworked erector system “ does anyone know if that includes an update or fix to prevent anything from happening again? I have heard they are known for this issue and thought maybe someone may have a little more info than i was given.

are the vari x 3s of the same vintage any more reliable? My grandfather has a few varix 3s gathering dust and he is looking to get rid of stuff due to age, but i have no use for it unless it is for the most part reliable

The "reworked erector system"description is generally the replacement of both erector springs. Springs can weaken over time and usage. I have several old Vari-X II's that are functioning as new. Granted, I do not turn the friction adjustment screws much. Vari-X III's use the same erector system with having click adjustments instead of friction.

I have sent in Vari-X III's with target knobs for POI shift issues. One 1993 made 6.5-20X EFR was in three times for the same problem. It was last internally upgraded to the current twin bias springs found in new scopes.

Leupold products are very reliable for the most part. When they are not, you have their lifetime warranty on your side.
