Leupold Sequoia quality

I am cheap... I am looking for Leica quality at third-world prices. At first glance, a Leupy Sequoia spotting scope seems to be a possibility.

I have not looked through one and I am contemplating mail order.

Can anyone give me a brutally objective review of their quality?... did I mention I'm also really picky about optical quality?

I bought 1 a couple of years ago. I used it 1 time ground hog hunting, and realized that it was junk. It was OK for fairly short yardage,,300 yards max), but anything over that was not clear at all. The company I bought it from had a 30 day trial period, so I packaged it up, shipped it out, and they refunded my cc. I have heard good things about the Bushnell Elite's, if they are in your price range. I now own a Pentax PF-80ED, and couldn't be happier.

Thanks very much, that is what I wanted to hear. Nobody ever called a Swarovski "Junk" nor a Leica.

I have played with a Pentax ED and my only complaints with it are the eye relief, compared to Leica for instance at the same power) and the fact that its edge sharpness was not what I was expecting from a scope of that pedigree. Other than that, I loved its contrast, central image resolution and brightness. The answer to my desires is to pick up a Leica, but my strong Scottish heritage keeps smacking my padlocked change purse every time I convince myself I need one.

I wasn't calling the Swarovski, or Leica junk. I was talking about the Sequoia.

I know... my point being that scopes of the highest quality are never called junk by anyone. The fact that someone, you) can call the Leuplod Sequoia junk means that based on your singular commentary, it is obviously not Leica caliber. I'm glad you commented.

i also do not like the sequoias. the one i looked through at Cabelas was not great. i thought the burris landmark for $280 was more clear and much better. the only good leupolds are the gold rings, wind rivers are not good.
