leupold scopes

I’m looking to get another scope for another prs rifle I’m putting together, I currently have a mk5 5-25 and a couple mk4 6-24. The mk4 is a great scope and hard to beat expecially for the money, I was thinking of getting a 7-35 or a 8-32. Anyone know what the fov difference would be for either of them vs what I currently have in the 20x power range. i know they will be smaller at the max power. im more interested in the 18-20 range as thats what i will be using in matches. Thanks in advance

I wonder if the FOV vs magnification relationship is a straight line between the specs given at 7X and 35X?

14.7’@100 yds at 7X
3’@100yds at 35x

Interpolation at 20x equates to 9.27’.

But I don’t know for fact the relationship is linear. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable in optic systems will chime in.

I have two of the 5HD 7-35x and one 5-25x and am very happy with them. I bought them all used on this forum.

That’s a good question. I’ll have to compare them for FOV at 20x and report back.

Update:

I just compared the two, sighting off a welding table, out the shop door to a row of trees & brush about 80 yds away. The magnification ring on the 7-35 has numbers 19, then 23x. So I guessed where 20x would be. The 5-25 has 20x marked on its ring. I aligned the reticles on the center of a specific small tree trunk and noted what brush was visible to the right of said tree trunk. The FOVs appeared to be very close to the same. I could have introduced some error where guessing at the 20x setting on the 7-35.

cant tell any difference in the glass at all either im assuming

The AAOV for the Mk5hd 7-35x56 is 19.6° at 7X and 20.1° at 35X. Definitely not a wide angle. At 20X, the FOV IS 59.1MOA at 19.9° AAOV.

For the 5-25X56, the numbers are similar: 19.5° at 5X and 20.1° at 25X. At 20X, they will have essentially the same FOV of 59MOA.
