Leupold Scopes

The VX3 has twin erector springs, and Schott glass. The differences between the two are substantial.

Where did you see they have schott glass in em? Thats a huge step up for them.
Leupold has sourced some their glass from Schott for many years. The VX3 contains a lower grade of glass. The VX7 was fitted with the highest grade, which was carried on into the VX6 line.

As much as I'd like to believe so learned an expert as JRS, I sent a quick e-mail to Leupold asking if they used Schott glass in their scopes. They provided the following response, "It's fiction".

From whom do they source their glass, Eddie?

I assume you asked that question also? No scope manufacturer is going to give you that information, nor from where they source other components. Will you copy and post the actual email response, Eddie?

I did not ask that question because no one had mentioned it. You stated that they used Schott glass and I decided to try and go to someone who knew for sure. I detest "Internet Dis-information". Especially when it denigrates a very well respected company who has served the shooting sports world so well over the years.

They have, and continue to use SCHOTT glass in certain scopes. They also use glass from OHARA in Japan. Leupold is using the best glass from the best producers. They have tried to purchase locally, but can't get the quality in the quantity they need. The number of quality glass makers is very small. Most of which are in Japan.

BTW, Eddie: I know, for sure. One of my siblings lives in Wiesbaden, and has been working for SCHOTT for 38 years.

You would think as many scopes as leupold crunks out they would make their own glass- at least in the cheaper lines if nothing else. I bet its a huge undertaking to set up tho.

BIG, BIG money, Dusty. Originally, ALL Nightforce scopes contained SCHOTT glass, and Marumi Optical in Japan performed the grinding on the glass for Nightforce.

As is always the case with Leupold, it takes 48 hours, or more, to receive a response to email.

Richard,

"We import glass from Europe and Asia. We do not give out specific information regarding which vendors glass is used in our scopes. Our records indicate you have registered three VX7 scopes with LEUPOLD. For that reason alone I will address your request. Yes, your VX7 scopes contain SCHOTT glass".

Thank you for choosing LEUPOLD.

Your credibility is shot, EddieHarren.

Edit: I removed the name of the specialist.

As I stated earlier. You win. You obviously can compose your own correspondence with Leupold and post it here.

The original question did not concern VX7 scopes.

I have resisted the ignore feature for the entertainment factor but it gets tiresome.

The Leupold Tech that I spoke with I have dealt with her many times when ordering scopes from their custom shop. Her reply to me, when asked about the rumor that they used Schott glass in some of their scopes was, "It's fiction". What makes your supposed reply from Leupold any more credible than mine?
Give it up, Eddie. Unlike you, my honesty and integrity make me more credible than you, Eddie. Does that answer your question? In one post you stated "I sent a quick e-mail to Leupold", in your next post, (which you removed after you were caught in a untruth) was "the Leupold Tech that I spoke with". Unfortunately for you, I copied your post before you were able to remove it. Stating an untruth to try to get out of an untruth damages your credibility even further, Eddie >:( I happen to have access to information that you don't have access to. Get over it, Eddie. Stop whining like a spoiled little brat!

LOL...our friend JRS has mastered the technique of "double-speak" ...for an example check out Mr. Double-Speak on YouTube. Same methodology employed by JRS....the thread starts out with a specific question, but after JRS chimes in it's like the old Abbott & Costello routine....."Who's on first?"

Finally! Eddie Harren's bedfellow, LHSmith has arrived. I answered the question the OP asked with reply #1. I was asked a question by another member, and answered. It happened to be your bedfellow dumping his garbage on this thread. Go back to your cartoons, LHSmith. Bozo is calling you ;D

Clear glass Schott or not it is ground and coated by Leupold.. Many companies use Schott glass and get different results.. I have read leupold imports some of their glass but they didn't specify.. Regardless, quality control and their own processes are more important..
