Leupold scopes may be over priced but----

I am in the agreement that Leupold scopes are priced a bit higher than other scope makers that offer equal or even better quality of glass. One thing i havent found equal or better than Leupold is the edge to edge picture of the scope. what i mean is that with leupold you get no or very little dark area around the optics edge while looking through the scope. I like that very much about Leupold. the picture is all you see. With my Monarch scopes the glass is nice but you have such a large black ring around the optics edge. Is there any other scope maker that shares this quality that Leupold has? I am looking for a nice hunting scope in the 350-400 $ range. I hate to spend the extra cash for a Leupold but i want a complete sight picture while hunting. It helps finding your target. At least i think it does. Is there any other scope that has this?? Thanks Lee

Sounds like an eye relief issue to me. There is no comparison in the quality of the glass in the Monarch compared to the Leupold Rifleman, VX1, and VX2 series.

Eye relief? That might be another story. As with any riflescope, make sure it's properly mounted on your rifle, with the distance from your eye set when the scope is at highest magnification if you're using a variable power optic.

Thanks for the reply. I am not very good at expressing my thoughts through words. The eye relief isnt the issue. Ill try again. When i look through a Leupold scope i can see what i am looking at edge to edge. there isnt any wasted space in the glass. when i look through my monarch, i see a black ring all the way around the outer edge. Kinda like a dark border. Even with proper eye relief. Surely someone else knows what i am talking about. Thanks Lee

Lee - I know exactly what you are talking about. No one does it better in that regard than Leupold. Not sure how they do it either, but it is really noticeable when you do a side by side comparison. I suspect you would have to step up to a high priced scope to find something similar.

With that said, I only own one Leupold any more. I've found the glass on Nikon Monarchs and Sightron scopes to be equal or better than Leupolds for less money. But neither of them have that edge to edge pop you get with the Leupold.

Lee,
with great qty comes a big price now a days! I have many leupolds! All of them are ethier Mark 4s or vx3s! I am slowly but surely changing out the vx3s with the mark 4s! I'm sure there are better scopes than leupold, but like I said before $$$ equal qty! and any scope that is better than leupold is sure to be at a higher price than leupold. when it comes down to it, it's the individauls satifaction with what opics he or she is using and the price of that optic. I look at things like this. Leupold are expensive scopes they are great scopes. The one thing I love about leupold is if you have any trouble with there scopes they will either fix it or replace it for life. you can get a lemon in anything you buy. no matter of brand or model, but I can say leupold is awesome when it comes to standing behind thier product!

I agree with you about NEW LEUPOLDS are way over priced. VX-lll ,VX-3 and VX-7's are not a very good value for the money. This is not true of the OLDER Veri- X -lll the glass is better than the new stuff and they can be bought VERY REASONABLE used. In my opinon the glass is a lot better in the Veri-X 's than the VX's !!!! All they have done is add more coatings and cheapen the glass and raise the price!!! I don't buy any new LEUPOLD'S.
