Leupold Mark 6 Value

I have an opportunity to buy a used Mark 6. Doing some checks on various forums and don't want to get burned. It's a 3-18x44 with M5C2 turret, TMR. What I've read is glass is just OK for the price. I've read about issues with tracking, but I'm not as concerned with that, as I understand Leupold will make that right if it doesn't.

So, if I buy it, and don't like the glass (compared to a Bushnell ERS), I would post it for sale.

So, to the question and the main point of the post. What would be a safe number to pay, that I would be able to resell if I chose and not lose money. In other words, I post it for said price and it sells in a week. Low retail, good deal, too hard to pass up pricing but not low; or what YOU would still be willing to sell it for if it was YOUR scope and wanted it sold quick. In other words, not some stupid low price like $10, which would obviously sell in a second flat.

I see asking prices for used Mark 6's of $1,400, but not sure if they are actually selling for this amount. Is that too high in the current market with the Mark 5's? Is $1,200 to $1,300 the number?

Well, I am buying it. What is the value? I guess it’s worth what I’m willing to pay! I’ll post my review of the new to me scope when I have a chance to get it all set up.

People always hate giving a price on something in this situation … I can tell you I try to base off of new.. what’s a new one? Is this less? How much less? Like you mentioned with scope warranties these days I have no fear of buying a used optic as long as lens aren’t scratched… I always figure if I’m happy with price then heck with any one else’s “opinion”……

Yep. I generally base it on asking prices that I see posted and sold prices on auction sites. If I use it, and it doesn’t suit me, even if I sell for a few dollars less, I got some use out of it and will have learned something. Value of scope - $1. Value of an education - priceless.

When I looked at mk6's they were very fine scopes as far as clarity and resolution. Admittedly I've only done optical checks and didn't get into mechanical checks because I simply hated the elevation turret and pushed them off my list at that point.

Was it the M5B2 or M5C2 turrets? Seems the C2 get better reviews. Either way, I’ll have my own to judge soon.
