Leupold Mark 4s

I am going to be building a rifle very soon for 600 to 1000 yard shooting. I am looking into scopes, and i am a Leupold fan so i the Mark 4 8.5-25 power is looking pretty good. I am also looking at NightForce, but im new to this and a $2000 scope with 42x seems a little rediculous for me, but a NightForce scope is still an option. Im really just looking for reviews on the Mark 4 because i really dont hear much about them on here. Also is there any other Leupolds i should consider over the mark 4? Or why should i bend over backwards to get a NightForce?

Also this will be almost exclusively for target shooting but i would really like to get to know the Mil Dot reticle from experience.

Nightforce also makes a 5.5-22 and an 8-32 in either BR or NXS styles :) Nightforce would be my choice, but the Mk4 does have its followers too.
If you are shooting paper, the mildot is a waste of time IMO.. Get a Target dot or the finest cross hairs available. You will be working with fixed distances for target shooting. If you are going to be doing shooting in the field and want to range targets, an FFP type scope would be more appropriate for that type of work IMO.

Yeah i knew i was going to get some crap for the mil dot but i am going to be doing some less formal target shooting also. Things like unknown distances at animal paper targets and such.

"Rock": Nightforce Benchrest models are available in 8-32x (I have one), and 12-42x (have two), 1/8 moa clicks, and cost is $1211 for the 8-32x and $1359 for the 12-42x, both a long way from your estimate of $2000. Both are excellent, but I do prefer the 12-42x. :)

I am shooting my 300 RUM at 600 yard distances with a MK4 8.5-25 with TMR reticle. Love this reticle, the center of reticle is hollow. This is all the scope I need on this rifle as it is more of a tactical rifle.

But you can pay the same amount and get the NF 12-42 BR scope and don't look back, as the power and clarity will be there for you. For 1000 yards, you will want more power than 25. I wish Leo would come out with a higher power Variable as I too love my Leupolds. But the NF's are probably the most popular for most LR disciplines.
Its up to you what reticle you want, but most guys seem to like the NP-2DD.

I keep seeing a little over $1800 for the 42x and once you count taxes and shiping im at $2000. But at the prices fds is talking about i would go with the Nightforce because those are the prices that im looking at for the mark 4s. So, where are you getting the deals?

Ok doing a little more investigation, i found the almost $1900 price tag was the "NXS" model... So this is sounding better. Can i find better deals than that? And whats the difference between the NXS and the Benchrest models, and do they all have Illuminated reticles?

On Jan. 9th i will be shooting with a guy that uses nightforce and sells them so maybe i can get a deal with him... Really nice guy that runs Big River archery and firearms here in MN.

If you somehow get a deal, keep it to yourself or else you could cause issues with NF and your supplier :) They strictly enforce their pricing policies.
