Leupold competition 45x45mm scope

I have a leupold competition 45x45mm scope that I am going to sell. Behind the turrets there is a ring that is attached by a small set screw that has 2 thumb screw adjustments. I am fairly sure this isn't part of original equipment and is something my stepfather had added but not sure.
Would anyone know what this is?

Thanks

Gary

Yup, not part of scope. Maybe shade mount, or reference for ring position on multiple rifles?

It is a Don Nielsen locking system. You need to loosen the screws before you move the turrets and then gently snug them afterwards. Do not overtighten them.
