Leupold 8.5-25x50 Varmint Reticle

For your information I found the holdovers in my 8.5-25x50 Leupold scope with varmint hunter reticle. There are 5 holding points and the list is as follows. 1st crosshair down is 1.3", 2nd one is 3", 3rd one is 5" and the short one down low is 6.5". These holdover are for the optic to be used at maximum magnification of 25 power.

The 22BR-AI shooting the 53 V-Max at 3786 zeroed at 200, top crosshair, is 275, 385, 472 and 529. All figured with a Pact Professional ballistics program thats included with unit. This is flatter shooting than my 6BR shooting 70 gr Blitzkings at 3522 out to 500 yds.

Just thought I`d share the subtensions for anyone else using this same optic.

That's getting there fast! 300yd zero might work out somewhat better.. closer to the point blank/line of sight.'...

I hope you know that it will only be that value at that one power setting. When you change power setting everything changes.

I, like everyone else here knows this, so I fixed the wording to include this for the novice shooters.

If on a different site, I agree. 99% of the membership here are experienced shooters.

I have 5 of those scopes and really like them in the dog fields. I have the holdovers written on a 1 inch orange dot on the inside of a Butler Creek ocular cap so all of the figures are handy.

I have that reticle in my 6.5-20 and love it. On my 22-250 with a 200 yard zero and the scope set at 20x the 400 yard reticle is dead on at 400. With the scope at 14x the 400 yard reticle is on at 450 yards. This is using a 55gr Gamekings over 36.0 grains of Varget. I have no idea what the velocity is as I don't own a chrono.

Love that scope. I have two of them with the vamint hunter reticle. I sent one of mine back to Leupold and had the Mark 4 turrets put on it. Now it has 75 moa elevation instead of 95 but that is plenty.

John Kruzan had 5 of those scopes but he may have sold a couple.

Both scopes make my prarie dog trips.

Lots of good powders for the 22BR and the 50 ish grain bullet, can`t imagine that the same doesn`t apply for the AI version.....

Big fan of Benchmark here, had a 20BR that loved the stuff....... H322, R-15 and a few others work as well, just depends on what the rifle likes....

Phil.

I recall your fondness of these with the large MOA to suit your needs at the Dome!!!

Couldn't imagine what a 50gr bullet would run at...4000+ speeds...
