leupold 24X target scope . . .problem

The crosshairs on this scope are so fine, particularly the horizontal) that its quite hard to pinpoint the target. ,There is no dot . . . just fine crosshairs) Are there any adjustments that might make these crosshairs stand out a little more. Would a rubber eyepiece make a difference?
Does anyone have a leupold target scope with fine crosshairs?
Maybe I got something that was a factory problem?

On Leupolds, the rear-most threaded ring is used to focus the reticle. The recommended method for doing this is to screw the ring pretty far out to start, then work in. You want to be looking at a distant open view--such as the sky right above the horizon. Screw the eyepiece in slowly until it's super-sharp, then set the lock ring.

A rubber eyepiece will reduce the entry of ambient light from the sides. This will increase perceived contrast in the viewing field. That, in turn will make the reticle appear darker and the subject lighter.

The other thing to check is whether your lens is clean. Believe me, I've looked through a lot of dirty scope on other folks' rifles. When cleaning, follow Leupold's instructions to the letter. Different scope makers use different optic coatings. Some can be cleaned with isopropyl alchohol. Others should be cleaned with distilled water only. Ask Leupold before you apply anything to the front or rear objectives.

An online copy of the generic Leupold owner's manual,1.07 meg .pdf file) can be downloaded at http://www.leupold.com/resources/downloads/Riflescope_Instruc_Manual_6-15-06.pdf

Rubbing alcohol and water are approved solvents for cleaning lenses.
