Let’s see your range

I belong to Canton McKinley and TUSCO gun club. Shot IHMSA at TUSCO for 30+ years and joined it last year since I retired!
Shot 2 or 3 BR matches at TUSCO last year and silhouette range is awesome. Auto rest targets.

Then there's this one:

Whats all that white stuff on the ground?

Interesting ranges one and all . I've never taken photo's of any of the ranges I've shot on .
Two of MY personal favorites the desert southwest ,which I no longer use and our property ,which I do use on occasion . Pretty much wherever I set a target ,as the barren right side of the hill is 1270 yd. off edge of our deck . I have targets at 100 165 250 500 ,which require scopes or binoculars to see. The Range I belong to has
designated indoor Pistol and dual 5 stand ,along with outdoor Pistol Rifle ranges 10 yd.-1200 yd. #2 sporting clays courses and is 25 minutes from our house . I'll take a couple of photo's next time I'm over in Hells acreage and No doubt you'll understand it's namesake .

A number of years ago, my Brother and I started holding 400 yard clay target matches. We had a six bench range and attendance quickly outgrew that so we ended up building this range. 12 concrete benches under cover. The bench and legs were all poured as one unit and each leg has a steel post in the middle driven deep into the ground. This is a private range and unless we are holding a match, it is plenty private. First picture is the bench line. Second is a 100 yard target frame where I was practicing today. Third picture shows the 400 yard berm. It backs up to the mountain and that is as far as you can shoot. Mountains make a pretty good backstop.

Sadly, I don't get out as much as in past years -- the site demands I work ceaselessly -- every day of the month. I used to go to the Winchester Canyon Gun Range twice a week when I lived in Santa Barbara. Here's the Shotgun range, where my brother and I would shoot trap. This is the view looking East.

A few hundred yards to the west, you could look down at the Pacific. Here's a professional photo (not mine). This is the view from Lizard's Rock trail, a 20-minute walk from the Winchester Canyon range. Yes I have watched the sunset from this very spot...

Then, after moving south, I joined the Ojai Valley Gun Club, which has a beautiful 600-yard range where we would shoot steel and paper at 600 yards from the bench.

One of the reasons I got involved in shooting (and started this website), was that it gave me a good reason to head up into the scenic coastal mountains.

Above is the gray-stocked Savage that inspired 6mmBR.com, the predecessor to AccurateShooter.com. I bought the rifle for about $300, and the stock for $130. Added a pre-fit 3-groove PacNor in 6mmBR and the darn thing shot high ones/low twos right from the start. Honest. My load development (if you can call it that) started .007 in lands with 30.0 gr Varget for round count 15-30. Then I went to 30.3 for a little better ES and a bit more FPS. That's it. Done. That 27" barrel delivered 2910 fps at the 30.3 gr load with 105s. It loved the original Lapua 105gr Scenar bullets (old style tangent ogive).

Oh and the first measured group out of the gun was a witnessed 0.168" for FOUR shots, rounds 15-18. But I can't claim honors. The President of the Winchester range in SB happened to walk by while I was firing the PacNor for the first time with the new barrel (shoot 2 and patch etc.). He asked to shoot the gun and I said sure. After he put four shots in one ragged hole, he got up and said "Mighty impressive -- but I won't take a 5th shot... I don't want to spoil the group." He had never heard of the 6mmBR cartridge before.

The break-in, BTW, was done with nothing but wet patches. But that leads to another story that most of you guys would never believe...

I don’t normally take photos of the range itself but yesterday I snapped one from the 1250 berm back toward the firing line.

Strategic Edge Gun Range in Central TN. Membership required. Happy wife not included, nor guaranteed... (all hits at 1000 and 1250 for her)

Rimfire: 25-100yds steel, paper @ 200yds
Centerfire: 100-500yds. Guests OK here
Long Range: 100, 600, 750, 1000, & 1250
Pistol/Carbine: 3 bays, 50-75yds max
Wobble Traps: 2 throwers, 5 gates
Golf Carts: x2 for targets beyond 100yds
Targets: Steel at all berms, except 200yd RF

Clubhouse for training classes etc. and a reloading room on-site with A/C.

Well worth the 2hr drive IMO. I can shoot off my deck, but only 35-60yds. Great for the pistols, air rifles, and positional .22lr.
