Let's see some 2017 Match Schedules

I'm not a club officer, but as far as I know Pascagoula Shooting Club will continue to hold 600 and 1000 yard F class matches the fourth Saturday of every month with a 600/1000 yd bench rest match the following day except when these days conflict with Christmas as they do this December. The range is actually in Moss Point, Mississippi.

Palo Alto Rifle and Gun Club hosts a 600yd F Class match on the first Saturday of each month, a 600yd. Field Precision Rifle match(think prone tactical rifle/mag fed/open caliber under .35/folding bipod F-class target) every second Saturday, and XTC every third Saturday. The FPR match will be a points paying match for the top 5 shooters with a state champion (regardless of state of residence) awarded at the end of the year in December based on total points (New for this year). The MR F class matches are NRA approved with a registered State Championship held in October.

Thanks for reminding everyone of these matches. I believe I have the link to the calendar here:

http://pascagoulashootingclub.com/psc/?page_id=29

However, I am hoping someone can clarify whether some of these F-Class matches are really 1000 yards, since all the calendar entries say:

F-Class Prone M/R Match

If some are 1000 yards, it would be really handy to know which ones. 1000 yard matches are a little harder to come by and often justify a longer drive.

Short answer: Unless the 1000 yard targets are inoperative for some reason, you can pretty much count on being able to shoot at the longer range. In other words, plan on being able to shoot 1000 yards at every match.

Long answer: All the F class and BR matches I've attended are mixed. That is to say, both 1000 and 600 yards, at least most of the time.

The club recently reconfigured the 600 yard target pits and they're fully functional. The last time I checked they were doing some work on the 1000 yard target stands and on a very few occasions in the past the 1000 yard targets were not available. But they have been available in recent months.

The range is configured so that both distances can be active at once. Some clubs schedule 1000 yard matches OR 600 yard matches because of the layout of their shooting range. Pascagoula doesn't have that limitation and they normally shoot both distances at once.

What that means, in the real world, is if you show up and you're the only one who wants to shoot at 1000 yards or if for some reason the 1000 yard targets (and/or the access road) are undergoing maintenance, you might be asked to join the 600 yard shooters. Most guys shoot at 600 yards. If there is another shooter to pair you with at 1000 yards, you're in luck. But all is not lost. Some guys don't care, so if you happen to be the only one interested in 1000 yards, there is a very good chance someone will be happy to be your partner.

But the club does its very best to insure that both distances are available for every match. If they know for sure the 1000 yard targets won't be functional, they post that on their website.

I think I'm correct in saying your big Fall F-Class match at Palo Alto is a two day event. Do you also have a 2 day F-Class event in the Spring?
Yes, the fall F-class MR State Championship is 2-day

There is not a spring regional scheduled this year. Last year a 2-day Regional was held in April.

I also must add that 'sling shooters' also are welcome to compete at these events and have their own class. We get a good complement of HP sling shooters at the matches.

Thank you for such a detailed and informative reply. That's awesome!

I really appreciate the matches palo alto hosts, especially having two great matches every month. The calendar is here:

Please give us a heads up when the new programs are posted with the particulars. The most recent I can find are 2016 F-Class here:

http://www.paloaltogunclub.com/documents/2016ProneProgram.pdf

And 2015 FPR here:

Thanks!

The Palo Alto schedule and rules have not changed from the linked programs above except the entry fee is now $20 (and Mickey B. starts all FPR matches with a 3 point handicap!!!:D). Still F-open 1st Saturday/FPR 2nd Sat./XTC 3rd Sat.. The date for the State Championship in October is not yet posted but will again most likely be the 1st Saturday of Oct..

This is a look at the unofficial/tentative schedule for the 2017 BRRC Tactical Challenge Matches. It probably won't change. All matches are on Saturday and shooting begins at 0800. (Not PRS)

February 25
March 25
May 27
June 24
August 26
September 23
December 9 (Hi Country)
60 rounds will do. Bipods, tripods, slings, ruck sacks, back packs, ranging reticle scoped rifle with detachable mag are the norm. Bring snacks and hydration. Ground mats, stabilizing bags and LRF'S allowed (you will have to share the data). C.O.F. varies and includes reactive steel and both moving and stationary paper targets. Ranges vary from 50 to 1,000 yards. Legacy and unconventional, supported and unsupported positions, barricade and some pistol stages are within the realm of possibilities. A more specific, but not much more, C.O.F. will be announced a week before the match.

Which matches are F-Class?

The following matches include F-Class (all are 3x600s):

3/12/17 Not NRA Approved
5/21/17 NRA Approved
6/11/17 NRA Approved
7/9/17 NRA Approved
8/13/17 NRA Approved
9/17/17 NRA Approved
10/14-15/17 Although the schedule doesn't say this, I'm fairly certain both days are NRA approved; this is our annual Mark Skutle Memorial Mid-Range Match
11/12/17 NRA Approved
12/3/17 Not NRA Approved

Note that at River Bend, FTR shooters and F-Open shooters are grouped together in the same category for awards purposes, but the match report will show which class each shooter was in.
