Let us Pray for Texas.

With this guy's background, I wondered how he slipped through the cracks to purchase firearms. Today, the Air Force is admitting they screwed up by not entering his name in the national crime database. So much for enacting another law that would have any chance of preventing this type of act.

Folks, I shoot competitively (three different disciplines), hunt and have a sizable gun collection. I've never been in trouble in my life but the public at large is blaming me and all other "gun people" for this tragedy. The system simply didn't work. There were red flags all over the place and the perpetrator should never have been able to even go near a gun of any type. He shouldn't have been able to walk out of a gun shop with a slingshot let alone a firearm. If Trump wants to truly do all of us a favor (and we all want this kind of thing to never happen again), He'll have his DOJ do a thorough investigation on why this system failed and fix it.

Now that some time has passed and we know about his background.. assault on his wife and kid , animal abuse , served a year in military prison , cought trying to sneak guns on a military base after threatening his CO with death , locked up in a mental hospital and escaped from said hospital in 2012...

This is only what I can remember there has been several people come out and say he intimidated them and was violent...

How with all this did he legally purchase a gun...? He wasn't able to get a CHL/LTC here but was allowed to have a security commission.....This kind of thing I just can't wrap my head around... Any of it...

As a hard line latin catholic for over a half of as century, I stopped and asked myself a question: 'What is the evidence that any of my holy scripture is real and true?' it is at events such as this lead me to believe that if there is a supernatural force out there, it sure ain't on the human mammal critter's side. Yourself, like many, many others on this board, are some of my favorite posters.

And one news agency says the first responder was an NRA instructor. If that is the case...well, let's just say I am thankful for his courage and his membership
This unfortunate event, has shinned one of the greatest lights that have ever been showed on the NRA and it's membership.Even after wave after wave of the antigun rhetoric. If there was another event where an NRA member was the hero and in the anti-gun media's limelight, Im not recalling it. I have always very proud to be a member of the NRA. Now, even more so, thanks to Mr. Stephen Willeford and his courage.

Whether we realize it yet or we must have many more attacks first, we, the people are the only answer to this threat. You are more likely to be able to intercede and help your fellow man than yourself, but others offer you assistance as well. More and more, those prepared to answer the call will be cheered rather than chastised. Would be nice if the NRA stepped up and put forth a plan to recognize a new level of training which would be elimination of threats to life. So far, the only thing they step up is the push for contributions.

When we place all our faith in mechanistic humanistic "answers", based upon the addled thinking that people are inherently good and that more math/sociological/economic studies applied to our lives through legislation (law), it simply results in the loss of liberty and personal responsibility. Since we have been doing this in the US for at least 50 years (with AMAZING results ) it is no wonder that in the face of evil we are at such a loss to identify evil for what it is, who perpetrated it and at the same time cannot understand the very nature of the God who died to heal us.

So we are left with the masses screaming out for "someone" to do "something" and the answer offered is NATURALLY, more LAW. Have we learned nothing? The law only points out the sin. Only a change in the heart changes man. But then, since that answer can't possibly be a good one, "cough", maybe more money and more law will do it, eh?

And so what does this philosophical rumination have to do with guns you ask?

Simple: The free exercise of our rights and defense includes GUNS, and freedom is liberty with personal responsibility. Personal responsibilty can only be exercised by a people who are "good" or "being made good" on the inside. And the law has proven itself weak in doing that. Hence our forefathers often talked about a moral people, a people whose inner character was made good. MAybe it is time to dump the mindless sciences and return to the mindful self-examination of our innermost self. If we do, an honest appraisal will result in realization we can't fix ourselves, and maybe we should consider the last line in my first paragraph a bit more.

Then maybe we can return to being a people (nation) that is worthy of the claim, "under God".

I can only hope.

There are a few types of training(shooting games) that allows a person to shoot dynamically. Each brings something to the table and leaves a lot to be desired.

The key thing to take away from this shooting is keep your stuff loaded. Trying to fill a mag when the chips are down is never a good idea.

The people never give up their liberties but under some delusion.

I hate to say it boys..There are Wolfs, Sheep & Sheepdogs...Our Churches need a few good "Back Row Boys" & a Bad A$$ Sheepdog at the door....Mike in Ct
A local TV news story yesterday highlighted a church here with more than a few CCWs in the congregation, and presumably some capable men with law enforcement or military experience. The pastor and members are organizing a self-defense plan based on practice drills and the presence of concealed weapons at every service.

Contrasted in the same news segment was one of the local Catholic churches whose priest proudly affirmed with a reassuring smile that weapons are not allowed in his church, period.
