The sensless tragedy in arizona

Another terrible gun related tragedy.
On a different note even in Arizona where citizens do not require any kind of permit to carry a concealed weapon not enough people carry. Like in this situation no one had a gun to stop the shooter.

If it was a Republican Congressman(woman), there would have likely been all kinds of CCW in the audience, He might have got off 5 rounds.

What troubles me, is this is now a Political event, cbs, nbc, abc showing the pres and att gen, giving there little speeches tonight. If this was 12 random people anywhere else it would never get this hype. AND the kicker is the congresswoman is still alive yet all the political whos who are getting in there face time to America for what?

This just shows the politicians consider themselves royalty and the unwashed masses? well unwashed masses. More attention to the survivor then the innocent who were caught in a deranged mans path.

I only caught part of it all - all the exploitation of a child's death is pretty disgusting.

I am curious though as I only caught the end of it [the 'memorial']; was anything said by anybody trying to promote more gun control laws or changing of any gun related things? Blaming it on guns? Anything like that?

I watched the memorial telecast last night, and the anti-gun rhetoric wasn't high-volume. Most of what was said was appropriate, tasteful, and measured. Even if a passel of fools and tools did the bulk of the speaking.

I think our legislators GOT THE CLUE after the 1994 AWB got passed, and a whole truckload of AWB supporters got unelected in the 1996 races. Onerous gun control measures are correctly perceived as one of those "third rails of politics", much like Social Security--touch them, and die. There is a large and raucous counter out there to the mainstream media and their arrogant posturing, called the Internet. We the unwashed masses can make our feelings known quite easily without the filter of such obsolescenses as the New York Times or NBC News. And do.

I think not.. This guy targeted this woman because she is a Democrat. I do believe I have read that there have been threats against her before, just not carried out.. I doubt very much that therre would have been more CCW carrying people at a Republican event of this nature and you have presented no data to back up your calim..

There is no law in America or any proposed idiot law that can stop a determined whack job from harming someone. I am sure he was prepared to die if somebody was there to blast him away. That is what should have happpened. A hundred slugs ripping into his worthless hide. Now, the tax payers are going to have to pony up a million dollars plus to convict and house this moron. In Oregon, when I left corrections in 2002, it cost about $56,000 a year to house a person in the county jail.

That this child was born on 9/11/01 only adds more pain to her story, if that's possible. For her (or indeed any child) to have her life ended by the act of a creature like Loughner - an act that likely could have been prevented - is a sad illustration on what our priorities are.

Much the same thing goes on almost daily in our large cities & the media pays attention, but not to the same degree. They relish coincidence that adds to the payoff when they "spin" the stories they present.

I feel the same way! My daughter will be NINE next month! I don't know how I could ever go on living if she wasn't!? She is the apple of my eye and my Princess! A girly girl, but yet a Daddy's girl!!!!! I pray I never have too endure that pain!!! I'd just assume take my chances in hell with the Devil himself than lose my Daughter!!!
