Let me elaborate a little more..

Earlier I posted about a custom 22. I don't know much about them, since until recently I have not shot one in over 30 years. A month ago I got a wild hair and bought a new CZ457MTR. It shoots well but I was shocked that even its low recoil has a significant impact on accuracy, and I'm finally learning this little bugger. Today I'm prepping 1000 brass for my 223Ftr; the short story is I hate brass prep! Don't mind the loading part, but the journey to get there for a high amount of shooting sucks. It would't take much for me to sell off a couple of center-fires and jump on the rimfire bandwagon since I learned it is also very challenging and fun, and no loading. Might even try a rimfire Fclass match this year. So I have a LOT to learn, be gentle with me.

You asked about rimfire customs.
It might help if you indicated what you’re going to shoot, Br, silhouette, etc.

Tim I'm primarily a prone shooter so probably fclass. Soon I'll be 70 so perhaps br may enter into my future.

Then you are wasting your time with most of the Q&A so far. Benchrest 22’s are purpose built guns made to shoot off rests at 50 yards.
At 70 shooting long range, buy a low miles Annie 54 and call it good unless yoy simply want to blow $.

Fclass is often referred to as "belly bench rest" and many in centerfire use what is essentially a BR rifle, including the stock. Help me understand why the 22 is different?

I shoot ARA benchrest. The true custom unlimiteds run 3k. The ammo is 1500.oo a case and the ammo chase for stuff that doesn't have flyers is the game.
One piece rest and really good optics is a must.

There is also ir 50/50. Some different Weight classes play a role there. More info on their site.
Very fun games if you like bench rest that isn't unlimited guns only.

Getting up and down, back bending isn't for me so fclass won't work.

If you want to shoot smallbore f class you'll need a really good rifle and ammo combination. My rifle was built purposely for smallbore F Class, 2500X action, Jewell trigger blue printed, pillars and bedded, with a tuner, and built by a rimfire benchrest gunsmith. I shoot F-TR smallbore with a front bi-pod and rear bag. F Open is with a front rest.

You're right , it is very similar. A custom BR rifle is essentially a custom FO rifle, CF or RF. Anschutz in a BR stock is about the only production option for FO in smallbore. I think Tim probably made too much of the 'prone' in your post. Sling prone rifles definitely would be a whole different set of rifles.

Thanks Chad. One of the local clubs added rimfire to the high power fclass matches last year, a good group I enjoy shooting with. I can see rimfire fclass growing as many more ranges can accomodate vs high power.

It would be great to do it as a actual event, the commaradarie i get at events is great. I know even the best 22 ammo is way cheaper than loading my 284. They may need to bump the yardage out a bit more to make it truly as challenging though.

Kelbly sells a customized annie that i have never heard anyone talk about, but i would bet its good.

You might be money ahead by getting a Vudoo barreled action and dropping it into any BR/F-Class stock that is inletted for Remington 700s. They make a single shot adaptor that will play well with your game.

A new gun may or may not shoot well.

Some of the best shooting bargains are proven used custom rifles sold by retiring shooters, not hard to find.
