Leopoldo can’t fix it!

#1...don't assume. Call and give them a chance to offer options. They may have a perfectly reasonable offer for you. Not just real fair to automatically trash them without hearing their side.
I did not think that I trashed Leupold. Just some frustrated with the choices that Are available. The 24x is a great scope n they really do not have an equivalent.

Leupold customer service was very good. He listened to my application and needs. After some discussion, he offered the 45x benchrest scope. Too big, too heavy and too much magnification. Asked me what I thought would work for me? I chose the 6.5x20 EFR with the duplex reticule. They can furnish drop compensating dials , just give them ur loads. That doesn’t matter to me as I shoot known distance.
the reticule was an issue. The diamond style is too large. It is the equivalent to a 1/2 moa dot which is too large for my application. So the duplex was the only other choice. I also opted for the AO model as te side focus is difficult to use prone with a sling.
The scope is currently on back order but that is ok as my competition season is over.
Leupold was very accommodating so no complaints. I am going to search for another used 24X Leupold though.
I did ask the CS rep if he knew what was broken? He indicated that it looked like the unrepairable damage occurred when they tried to take the tube apart.
Why is it when u find something that really works for u and is a wonderful product, the company discontinues it!!!!

Never look a gift horse in the mouth,
Nick,
The scope has a lifetime warranty. They don’t offer a direct replacement. I was given a replacement choice and accepted their offer. Don’t see that Iam looking a “ Gift Horse” in the mouth. Leupold is the entity that actually damaged the scope beyond repair when they went to disassemble it.
So, as I see it, it is incumbent on them ( thru the warranty process) to replace the scope.
There is no “ Gift Horse” here, just Leupold honoring their warranty. That is one reason why , as a company, they are held in high regard, they work to ” Over Deliver” .

Take the 45x, sell it for $900-1000 and go by a Sightron or another brand that offers the setup you need.

The other thing to consider is there was no reason to disassemble it until it was determined to be malfunctioning.

It didn't leave the factory in that condition.

Again, I'll reference the vehicle comparison. It has been used. It's now not repairable. There's no direct replacement. But they're not telling the owner there's no solution.

Try that with a car a decade or more old. At 10 × the price originally.

I think Leupold is being extremely generous as they typically are.

item. The manufacturers are not in business to loose money.

Many items using in the sporting world are like that. Fly rods are a good example.

Larry M. , send me an email at Bob3700@att.net if u want to sell one.

If they offer to replace your scope with a new one what remedy would be better satisfy you? I have a Burris that was so blurry that I sent back to Burris. Burris returned it saying it was repaired and when I received it back is was more blurry than before. I wish Burris had given me the answer that Leopold gave you you got.
I got the same from Sightron. Soured me on the brand.

You've not paid for a repair at a dealership lately I guess. I'll provide an example.

Step daughters car, A/C quit working. She took it to the Ford dealer and they came back with a laundry list of $3K in parts and they hadn't even taken anything apart yet. No labor included yet, either.

I had her bring it to the house. Replaced both Schrader valves and pulled a vacuum on it overnight, which held. Added refrigerant and that was roughly 18 months ago. Cost about $100 including refrigerant.

How far can a vehicle be shipped for $3K?
LOL - not many folk have the gear you do.

I had a Leupold M8 6 power I bought used around 1980. A lens came loose in about 2010, so I sent it back to them. They said it was too old to fix, something to do with the glue, so they sent me a new 6 power. Heck, I had it 30 years and bought it used. I really wasn’t expecting a new scope.

Also, I sent them a couple of old Vari-X III scopes for new reticles. They did charge for that, but refreshed all the internals for free.
