Lemi-shine

Can not seem to find Lemi-shine. I found the booster and the dish washer little packs. Is the dw the same stuff.

Google " citric acid powder " and you'll find lots of substitutes some at your Walmart/Target, etc...

Kindest regards,

Joe

There was a post about this a month ago or so. Someone called or emailed the Lemi-Shine company and they said the Booster was the same thing as the Original Lemi-shine. Buy away!

Here is the original thread. Enjoy!

Add a sprinkle to your Thumbler with ss media. That, water and a drop or two of dish soap and let it go. The lemishine will 'soften' the calcium out of the water.

It makes the brass shine up much better. It saved me an expensive dishwasher repair too. I was using a liquid detergent and I apparently have hard water. There was scale all over the inside, my dishes had bad spots and then the thing clogged up with blue goop and started groaning. We started using Lemi-shine and gradually all the scale went away, the spots went away, the blue goop cleared out, and the groaning stopped.

Thank you, Lemi-shine!

I buy mine at Wal-Mart.

Walmart carries it in the dishwashing aisle here in CA. If you live in a place that has banned phosphates in detergents, you probably need to use it in your dishwasher. My dishes were turning white with film along with the interior of my dishwasher until I started using half lemishine and half detergent. Probably wouldn't have solved this problem if I didn't have it here for casing prep. --Jerry

Ok what do you use it for? Cleaning brass?

Yep, if you do a water bath brass cleaning process. Usual practice is also to use the stainless steel pins in a rotary tumbler with maybe 1/2 tsp liquid dish detergent (I use liquid laundry detergent mostly out of convenience and it doesn't smell from the perfume) along with 1/2 gallon of water and 1/4 - 1/2 tsp of the LemiShine product (citric acid mostly). I let my Thumbler's B run for an hour with 200-300 308 cases.

If you can't find LemiShine you can substitute citric acid powder sold for preventing darkened fruit in canning. The acid helps the detergent work (softens water) as well as removing the oxidation (tarnish) on fired brass.
