Lefty, right eye dominant

I was at the range the other day when someone there noticed that I was shooting left handed but am right eye dominant. He said that I'd be better suited to re-learn to shoot using my right hand. What are your thoughts?

Would that also apply to rifle shooting? I forgot to ask.

Someone at the range later told me that he was an NRA instructor. So, I'm sure he's intelligent on the subject but would it really make that much of a difference?

That would make things a whole lot simpler when I buy my first bolt action rifle! LOL

I'm curious how someone could 'notice' you're right eye dominant.
Were you leaning across the gun to sight with your right eye???
Or he was coaching you a bit and did a test for eye dominance?

Been there, done that. y world of rifle and shotgun shooting wignificant,h improved when I switched to the right side.

Regarding pistol shooting, one can use weigths and exercise to bring the. right side up to speed to hold the firearm one-handed for extended periods.

The other bright side, one can also use the switchto refocus on trigger control. There are several techniques folks use. A bit of research and practice might find the ine that works best for you.

Eye dominance doesn't mean a thing unless you shoot with both eyes open. If you close the non-shooting eye the problem is solved. If you are unable to shut one eye then just turn your head. Remember, just because someone passes a course and becomes certified, it doesn't necessarily mean he knows anything. It is just a piece of paper. I've known and worked with a lot of "instructors". Some are real gems, some are outright idiots. Try different methods and see what works best for you.
