Left the Range - Don Nagel

It is with a heavy heart I tell you Don Nagel, a member of the USA F-Open Team & Team Berger will be laid to rest today in Avon, OH. He was taken ill while in Ottawa, Canada preparing to shoot in the World Championships in August. Words escape me except to say Don was one of the true ‘Nice Guys’. He will be sorely missed both by his family and in the competitive shooting world. Don.jpg

Very saddened to read this. I've had the opportunity to shoot with Don in a number of places in the last few years. He was easy to talk to and just seemed to be having a good time on the range.

Don was a friend and a fellow shooter with me on multiple US Team events. He was true gentleman and a person who would give you the shirt off his back if you asked for it.

It is indeed a true loss to the shooting community and to anyone that knew him. We were just talking about retirement and what he planned to do in the upcoming few years the day before he fell ill and left a huge match to go home. Two months later, he's gone! May his soul rest in peace.

I knew Don for years, shooting with him on my home range in Malvern, Ohio. He and Jim Murphy acted as wind coaches for a four man team at the Nationals at camp Perry, out of the goodness of their heats.
He once said to me "lets just walk to the pits" (instead of driving) so we can have more time discuss the problem I was having with a cartridge. (I'm talking the 1,000 yd. pits).
I share these stories to demonstrate what a selfless, giving person he was.
May he rest in peace.

Don had a very positive impact on my son Adrian when they shot together at the Bergers. He will be missed by all of us in the Harris family.

A tremendous man with a great spirit about him. The words written on this thread are a testament to how he treated people and was, without trying, a true ambassador to our sport. Those of us that had the chance to shoot and fellowship with him are blessed to have that time and memory. He will be missed but my faith knows he is now without pain and suffering and in a better place. The competition on heavens range just got tighter!

The thing I'll always remember the most about Don was just how much fun he was to be around. Always genuinely happy and upbeat. I had great times shooting with him over the years but more fun just hanging out and being around him.
He will be sadly missed by me and my family.

I had the pleasure of shooting/scoring with him at the midrange Nat in 2014.What a great guy and lots of fun.It still makes me smile when I think about what he said to me right after he shot a 200.
He will be missed

Truly sad news. Don was a class act, and a pleasure to be around. I actually met him before shooting F-Class while were competing in walleye tournaments on Lake Erie. While working the pits together at the last F-class long range at Camp Perry we shared stories of our fishing days. Thoughts and prayers out to his family and close friends.
