Lee Perfect Powder Measure

I just purchased this powder thrower to use for throwing powder for my pistols. I was throwing H-110 for my 44 Magnum. Although the charges were for the most part consistant,it was always dumping powder out onto the stand. Really making a mess, and wasting powder. I tried tightening the screw that holds the handle onto the main body, but that only made it harder to throw the charge.
I bought this thrower because it was much cheaper than the Harrels. I believe something like 60 bucks compared to 250 for the Harrels. But then I also had to buy a stand so now I have about 120 bucks involved in it.
Now if I had to do it all over again, I would have bought the Harrels, which I probably should have done in the first place.
I'm going to try and reach out to Lee, and see what they can do. Probably nothing, but it's worth a try.
Sometimes cheaper is not always better...

The Lees are a good value, but admittedly not the best for spherical powder because of your exact problem of a bit of powder seepage. Actually a better choice and more consistent than many of the more expensive units for 'stick' powders because it 'swipes' the charge level rather than cutting the grains.

Second what SSL said.
I have several plastic LPPM's set up for my most used stick powder charges. SC powders are outstanding.
If (after the first couple dozen ball powder charges), you can still rotate the drum without a cheater bar,
the other problem with leaking ball powders is the leakage spilling into other cases on the loading block.

I found this video informative about regular maintenance, fast forward to 4 minutes if you want to get to your measure. Once I started doing this regularly all my problems went away

I bought a Lee for $30 and used the stand it came with. It worked fine and I didn’t have $120 into mine. It’s not as nice as my Redding 3BR but it’s not $250 either.

I use mine for pistol and rifle charges. I used a coarse automotive polishing compound, lapping-in the polymer drum cup/cone surfaces. This eliminates high and low spots and with minimal screw tension, leakage is all but eliminated regardless of powder type. Mine have the older style hopper that you can twist to shut off (you can still buy the hoppers online), and a small aquarium pump zip tied to the hopper, that helps with low-end "packing" consistency, and a star-shaped insert that presses into the hopper (available from Titan Reloading). The arrangement achieves 0.1 grain consistency, which is as good or better than more expensive dispensers that I tried (and returned). You can achieve the same with the Lee Auto-drum measure on a progressive. One note: there are small and large size drums, and Lee sells an insert to reduce the large drum for smaller charges. I don't think it works as intended. I don't use it.

Have used one for years. It does leak to some extent with smaller ball powders and is less accurate with flake powders. Lee products tend to be great in the value department. I use many of their carbide dies and have a Lee turret as well as one stage press. Had one service issue that they addressed quickly and one that they never got back to me on.

The powder measure does work better than a Frankford Arsenal unit I bought (which stays in its box) as the Lee is simply better. I also surprised at how long the Lee has lasted being that it is mostly plastic in construct.

I've used mine for a very long time. Powder leakage is something I've just learned to live with. I've never found any of them that don't leak one degree or another. Even when I hand trickle and weigh every charge on a scale, I loose some powder..........it goes with the territory.
