Lederer barrels

I have 1 Lederer barrel it has been a phenomenal barrel. I would buy more if I could get them. But honestly there are too many barrel manufacturers to wait silly wait times. Plenty of barrels will win!

Bart, I didn't have a problem on waiting on James's barrels. When I called in May he would have said I'm behind it may be a year or more before I can get your barrels I would have been fine with that. But to tell me I will ship your barrels in 2 weeks twice and not get them 5 months later I have a problem with that. The way I look at it I've been lied to twice. By the way I have a barrel certificate for a free James lederer barrel if anyone would be interested in it.

So that's why my build I commissioned almost 2 years ago hasn't been finished... It has to be since I shipped the stock, the trigger, the action, the mounts, and the rings to the smith, and only thing missing was the Lederer barrel. (At least that what I want to believe).
Not sure which smith that your using but it may not just be a barrel
issue. I have my parts at a well know smith, recommended by a very prolific me ever of this form, and it’s been over 2 years and I know it is not the barrels as I sent him 4 Kreiger.

Sadly my belief is that the short and long range benchrest game is falling apart because it’s difficult to get good work done. You can’t be competitive with a mediocre smith and if you can’t get the parts you move on to other hobbies. Sad state of affairs.

Put me in the "I would buy definitely another if I could get one" list. I like mine, but I can't wait 1-2 years for a barrel. I might wait 6 months, but "year plus" far too too long.

James made me some real nice barrels and stood behind them as to their quality 100%. I had/have a few on order for my 6ppc's, which was some years ago. I contacted him a few times about them with well-meant promises of them soon being here. No show......I have since moved on & wish him all the luck moving forward. He is a great guy to talk with & I am happy he is way too busy. Just maybe a bit over his head....If my barrels were to show up today I would gladly pay him for them and spin them right up.

Regards
Rick

I see that as an indication of shooters who complain about skilled people are the ones who raise kids making sure they never get their hands dirty and make everything to easy for them. send them to college so they can learn how to hate white people and get a degree in underwater basket weaving. gunsmiths are doing the same with their sons

How in the 'ell did you figure that?

I’m struggling with this line of thinking, there’s plenty of great competitors out there that do their own Smith work

Yes, that I really don’t like. I honestly believe when James says two weeks he means it and then gets overwhelmed in the meantime. But after awhile it feels like you’re being lied to. If he pisses enough people off his barrels will get way easier to get.

I think we all can agree we don't mind waiting on a quality product.
If you quote 2 weeks on something that a customer has been waiting months on already and don't produce that is where the problem arises.
Manufacturers know what they can produce in most any given time frame so if you can't make the schedule dont quote it.
The other issue is communication, if something comes up and you can't ship when promised then at least call the customer and let them know most people will understand.
A friend had 30 barrels on order from James, after the 3rd "they will be shipped in 2 weeks" he has pretty much gave up on receiving them.
You would think he may have received at least a couple by now since they were multiple calibers.
I believe they have been on order for over a year now.
Like a lot of guys on here I'm old enough to remember when a man's word and a handshake meant something, I guess those days are long gone.

I must not have phrased that well as your making my point. If you cannot do your own work, and you cannot get good work done in a reasonable time frame you move on to other hobbies . I have no proof of this but it is my general “feeling”. If the restriction point of competition is getting good equipment, and you cannot obtain that equipment you move on.

I could be wrong about this. Certainly open to having my mind changed.

Lets not throw all manufactures in that boat! I for one try very hard to meet whatever timeline I give a customer.

@BartsBullets , by no means did I intend to lump you into that category.
I have purchased from you, talked with you on the phone and at the Super Shoot and each time it has been a pleasurable experience.
Most every company has issues that occure from time to time when dealing with customers.
It's how you communicate and deal with it that determines whether your company succeeds.
A friend of mine who owned a couple new car dealerships told me 30 years ago " repeat business is the best business ".
It was as true back then as it is now.

Much Appreciated!

I would say I have about as many Lederer barrels as anyone and they are great but like anything you may get an average one but they will place in national competition. The wait is like anything else, he has turned out great barrels and they are in demand. So the orders come in and the wait gets longer..... jim
