Not sure which smith that your using but it may not just be a barrelSo that's why my build I commissioned almost 2 years ago hasn't been finished... It has to be since I shipped the stock, the trigger, the action, the mounts, and the rings to the smith, and only thing missing was the Lederer barrel. (At least that what I want to believe).
By the way I have a barrel certificate for a free James lederer barrel if anyone would be interested in it.
I see that as an indication of shooters who complain about skilled people are the ones who raise kids making sure they never get their hands dirty and make everything to easy for them. send them to college so they can learn how to hate white people and get a degree in underwater basket weaving. gunsmiths are doing the same with their sonsNot sure which smith that your using but it may not just be a barrel
issue. I have my parts at a well know smith, recommended by a very prolific me ever of this form, and it’s been over 2 years and I know it is not the barrels as I sent him 4 Kreiger.
Sadly my belief is that the short and long range benchrest game is falling apart because it’s difficult to get good work done. You can’t be competitive with a mediocre smith and if you can’t get the parts you move on to other hobbies. Sad state of affairs.

I’m struggling with this line of thinking, there’s plenty of great competitors out there that do their own Smith workNot sure which smith that your using but it may not just be a barrel

Bart, I didn't have a problem on waiting on James's barrels. When I called in May he would have said I'm behind it may be a year or more before I can get your barrels I would have been fine with that. But to tell me I will ship your barrels in 2 weeks twice and not get them 5 months later I have a problem with that. The way I look at it I've been lied to twice. By the way I have a barrel certificate for a free James lederer barrel if anyone would be interested in it.
I must not have phrased that well as your making my point. If you cannot do your own work, and you cannot get good work done in a reasonable time frame you move on to other hobbies . I have no proof of this but it is my general “feeling”. If the restriction point of competition is getting good equipment, and you cannot obtain that equipment you move on.I’m struggling with this line of thinking, there’s plenty of great competitors out there that do their own Smith work
I think we all can agree we don't mind waiting on a quality product.
If you quote 2 weeks on something that a customer has been waiting months on already and don't produce that is where the problem arises.
Manufacturers know what they can produce in most any given time frame so if you can't make the schedule dont quote it.
The other issue is communication, if something comes up and you can't ship when promised then at least call the customer and let them know most people will understand.
A friend had 30 barrels on order from James, after the 3rd "they will be shipped in 2 weeks" he has pretty much gave up on receiving them.
You would think he may have received at least a couple by now since they were multiple calibers.
I believe they have been on order for over a year now.
Like a lot of guys on here I'm old enough to remember when a man's word and a handshake meant something, I guess those days are long gone.
Much Appreciated!@BartsBullets , by no means did I intend to lump you into that category.
I have purchased from you, talked with you on the phone and at the Super Shoot and each time it has been a pleasurable experience.
Most every company has issues that occure from time to time when dealing with customers.
It's how you communicate and deal with it that determines whether your company succeeds.
A friend of mine who owned a couple new car dealerships told me 30 years ago " repeat business is the best business ".
It was as true back then as it is now.
