Lathe turning Pins out of a pin set

I was in the same quandary on how to taper additional gauge pins when I bought Kenny Porters mandrel die. I do have a lath but hesitated so I chucked the pin up in my cordless drill and roughed in the taper. With the pin still in the drill I polished the pin on a 3M Scotchbrite wheel and then over to a muslin wheel charged with green polishing compound. The taper was nicely polished and the opposite end could still be used as a gauge pin for measuring holes.
