I am in the process of looking for a lathe for another hobby.Want to work on things for myself. maybe chamber a few barrels for myself.
I have found a Emco Maximat v 13,36" between centers lathe .
Has any one ever used one or have any knowledge about these lathes? Good.Bad.
Any information on quality and price would be appreciated.I just want to buy once and cry once.
Keep in mind, this is for hobby and not manufacturing.

Thanks
Jim Gregory

They are very good machines, while smaller machines, they are well regarded by old time machinists. I believe they cut metric and English threads. Price, ive seen them go from 4k -11k. It all depends on condition, what tooling it has, things like taper attachments, steadies, follow rests, that you cant buy new greatly affect the price. THings like chucks, centers and toolposts are generic and can be fit to your machine.
Only issue I can think of is the hole in the spindle on those I don't know what it is. If its not at least 1.25" on the outboard end your gonna have a hard time chambering barrels through the headstock and will need a steady rest to do barrel work on larger target type barrels.
You can make a steady rest to fit, or buy one for a similar sized machine and machine it to fit, but that will require a mill.

I have run one for over 30 years, instill have it. I bought it new, it is the best barreling lathe out there. It will out last any of the Chinese stuff out there.
