I just busted Rob11 after he contacted me on a WTB ad. He sent pics, told me he's had the rifle since new, gave me the state he lived etc.. I google searched the pics and found a ad on Armslist from 2011 in St. Pete/Tampa, Fl.. I emailed him back and told him I might know him, had he ever lived in the St. Pete/Tampa area. He said no he was originally from Ohio. So I emailed the Armslist ad to him and am waiting for a reply. He has also contacted other members about WTB. Ad's. Be careful fella's, Brian.

He contacted me back and stated that that's the rifle in the ad, he was the purchaser of it. So that might be true, he stated he was the original owner, which obviously isn't true. I'd love to buy the rifle as I've been looking for a good while, but I can't risk it. I hope I didn't hurt a members rep. that is on the up and up. He did join today and has contacted other Members about WTB ad's. Just doesn't feel/seem right. Brian.

Or just ask him for a picture only this time have him write your name on a piece of paper and sit it next to the rifle in the picture. Either he's legit, or busted, or really good at Photoshop.

It could have and might have been completely legit. I just don't know who keeps ad pics from Armslist on their computer for 6 years and lied about being the original owner. Brian.

And if I were this guy and saw this thread and were legit, i would be on this thread defending myself, PM with a1712, having other AS guys who might know clear my rep...but we are hearing...crickets...in November.

OK, we have banned Rob11, but in 10 seconds I found the guy had been on the site just a few HOURS when he responded to the WTB.

a1712 was wise to be suspicious. And yes we tell people to ask for a CURRENT photo with some reality-signifying features such as masking tape on the stock... or putting a bottlecap on the muzzle.

But the important lesson here, for ALL to understand.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM A MEMBER WHO HAS ONLY BEEN ON THE SITE A FEW DAYS (in this case a few HOURS!)

You will see the date of registration below the USER's Forum name. It will say "Joined: [Month] XX, 201X"

We have a time limit that blocks brand new members from posting classifieds. Someone who is trying to get around this is probably up to no good.

IP Search revealed four IP addresses in 4 hours: Kansas (1:15 pm); Texas 2 (12:32 pm); Georgia (11:47 am); Texas 1 (8:59 am)

This is a sign of a scammer using IP bouncing software to disguise his location.l

Ha. I did that once to a person who was stealing my damn lunches out of a fridge. Took a yogurt package, removed the yogurt, put in some fresh dog stool and resealed the lid. Needless to say the lunch stealing stopped.

I would have put a little yogurt on top to make it look promising..
