I am really going to miss Larry. I starting shooting longrange in 2016 and I will always remember my first NBRSA LR Nationals at Sacramento in 2017. I was shooting next to some tall slender guy with a beard and I quickly learned he loved big calibers. If I recall correctly he shot a 300wsm in LG and when it came time for shooters to switch their guns for HG he pulled out a rifle bigger than I had ever seen. It was a 300 Norma mag shooting 200+ grain berger and lapua bullets and he looked at me, smiled, and said "son you better grab ahold of your balls when I fire this thing!"
I wasn't sure what to think at that moment but it didn't take me long to realize Larry was a great person and without a doubt one of the most encouraging and supportive people I have ever met in the sport. He was always willing to help me and so many others improve and was one of the first to congratulate you when you did well. When he found out I was making bullets a couple years back he set down with me and told me he had a friend named Clay Spencer he would like to introduce me to. He even volunteered to fly back east with me so I could meet him and ask any questions I had. Like so many other times, I wish I had taken him up on his offer, not so much to gain the knowledge but instead to spend more time with Larry and hear a few more dozen stories about elk surveys and hunting or calibers he had played with. RIP Larry. I will always cherish the good times we shared at matches.
