Large case cap 6mm

So this is purly for reading material as im not a wildcatter.
However ive been thinking resently about super flat shooting small bore like the 6mm.
What it the largest case you guys have put behind a 100-115gr 6mm bullet and had reasonable amounts.

In the future i may try a 6 mm variant on the 7mm rem mag been done?

Thaughts exsperianses and oppinions please folks.

Look forward to see what you have got.

In the mid nineties my buddy DJ and I necked a 7 Mag. to 6MM and blew it out with a 40 degree shoulder. Called it the 6 DJ BMF. Pushed a 107 Sierra to 3600 FPS. Needless to say very short barrel life.

6-06, 6-06AI, 6-284, 6RSAUM, 6RUM... All of these are overbore monsters that are only really, really good at one thing. That's destroying the steel between the bolt and the crown ;) LMAO

The possibilities are just about endless here. Sounds like you are looking for a really fun toy. I seriously doubt that your worried about barrel life. I wanted a 6-06 myself but it's just not in the cards at the moment. Doing a little research on the matter a few years back yielded a desired velocity of 3600 fps with a 105 VLD. That is a laser beam so to speak.

I think its been done before. I believe it was a 6mm Mach IV or maybe 6mm atlas. I think a WSM or SAUM would be fun.

Sounds awsome. Ive got a 7mm rem mag already. If i do go for somthing like this i will need to get a variation om my licence beforehaand so i would need to make a commitment before i even get to play. I like the 6mm rem mag idea as ive already got 400 pieces of brass. 3400 would make a hell off a 300 yrd varmint round.

6mm Atlas I think. I had a friend do one one the 7mm mag case and also the 6.5 mag case. He was just starting to chamber his own bbls then and these gave him something to do (as he put it) to get used to his new equipment.

I know your asking about the 6's but in the late 70s we took Weatherby 460 necked down to 6.5 , pushed the sholder back , shortened etc . Trying for the ultimate 1000 yd rifle . Barrels didn't last past the 500-600 round Mark .

Still have the reamers , case sizer and chamber . If interested

Years ago I guy I shot with played around with a lot of guns. Barrels up to 46 inches and 6 mm& 6.5 calibers. He was looking for the ultimate long range hunting gun. He necked down Weatherby mags and others. When it came down to it the 6mm REM IMP ran right with the rest of them. If I was doing a 6mm I would not go over a 6-284. There comes a point where you just don't hardly gain anything except barrel wear. I believe I read where a 284 necked down to 22 shooting a real light steel bullet held the record for speed at one time. Matt

I have a 257 wby mag and with 75g V-max at 4050 it cuts crows in half, the damage it can do is crazy. This is from a few years ago.

There is definitely a point where case capacity doesn't relate to more speed. I played around with a couple very over bore smaller calibers and they start acting really weird with pressures and get REALLY spikey. A 6x7mm Rem Mag or STW would be on the edge of being a grenade. Playing with a couple of them will cure you of wanting to do it again. This was before the latest batch of super slow powders. I don't know if they would help or not but I've scratched that itch.
