Lapua Palma brass, ok with a standard lr firing pin?

Although expensive over in Australia, I wouldn't mind trying Lapua 308 Palma brass.

Are there any issues using a standard 308 firing pin on the small rifle primer with protrusion using large rifle firing pin?

Remington 7 1/2 benchrest primers would be used.

The brass is to be used in a CG Inch action. It seems folks just use them without modification. It wouldn't be practical using a rebushed bolt and new firing pin.

None at all...

regarding the palma brass, I read somewhere it was adopted as it was perceived to give lower ES and SD's? is this reason it is used? does the small primer make any difference to accuracy, brass life, pressure etc? just wondering what the deal is with palma brass over normal lapua LR primer brass

It does give lower ES and SD numbers from what I have seen.

It is a tough case and can handle higher pressures with less risk provided the primer used is appropriately chosen.

...And they last longer as well. My SR Lapua cases will go about 13 firings before showing their age. The LR Lapua cases that I have as well seem to give it up by about the 8-10th firing. Granted my loads are at the upper end but I believe most all the Palma shooters are...
As for the firing pin size, I had problems blanking primers in my Winchester 70 action until I stopped using the Tubb Speed-Lock firing pin and spring. Standard factory units solved that issue though at some point I will bush that bolt.
In side-by-side firings (powder charges adjusted to the same muzzle velocity) I found the SDs were around 7-8 with the SR primers, closer to 10 with the LR version. Accuracy at 1000 yds. was a wash for me but I am not a world class Long Range shooter. I think they are worth the extra $$ for longer life alone.

Agreed, ground the pin back to .035" protrusion and still had pierced primers - the stock firing pin/spring (also ground down to .035" protrusion) works. No reason not to let GreTan bush my bolt. Ah the many things we learn in this game 'O shooting!

I was lucky to snag one of the very few INCH actions imported into the US in 2010, been shooting it with Lapua's Palma brass since Day 01.

No issues with small primers whatsoever! Wolf KVB-223REM all I've ever used in that rifle.

What you do need to be aware of is the flash hole in the Palma brass is only 0.060" diameter so you must use a primer removal pin appropriate for BR-type brass.

Your results mirror mine. Identical loads in Lapua 308 and Palma brass shoot to virtually identical velocities & POI down range, SD'S tend to be lower by a bit with the KVB-223REM primers over the KVB-7.

Only action I've had bushed is a Quadlite I had cratering issues with using Norma 6XC brass during early testing once it was built. Gre-Tan did the work, took about ten days, excellent workmanship.

I've made up 6XC brass from the Lapua Palma brass too. Results there carry across compared to the Norma factory stuff w/ large primer pocket.

I'm not what I'd consider 'world class' either but I have earned a High Master NRA long range classification shooting Palma.
