Lapua 6MM BR brass finally cracked one

Out of 100 cases I bought 3 or 4 years ago after at least 30 reloads on them, today I found a cracked neck, this brass is on it's second barrel, yep I wore out a barrel at 2500 rounds, it was a Shilen SM, I replaced it with the same thing, still have the same brass, I do anneal, not often, just when I feel like it.

I got 100 rounds of 6mm br 3 years ago. I lost 2 fire forming to a dasher. I use the same brass in three different guns. I Don't anneal. I have lost 12 from loose primers trying RL 15. I shoot H4350. I have loaded them all over 25 times. Larry

I lost one down a gopher/chipmunk hole >:(
My best brass, all prepped.
It does last a long time, i anneal every other firing.

thats a lot of annealing, you have a machine of some type, two things I do that I find really boring that's turning necks and annealing, I will never buy another barrel with a tight neck, no turn from now on, just hope my 30 br out last me.

Before that it was a drill and socket :(
Wish there was a neck turning machine .

If i ever wear this brass out ,gona set the barrels back with no turn reamers.

boughts Lapua 223 brass last year...Very first loading, had 2 split necks...Whats up with that? You right about the 6br brass..I had some I got a few years ago and was getting close to 30 loadings...But the 223 ,i'm still wondering about...I like the Black Hills 223 better if I can find it....

Good dies and bad chambers or good chambers and bad dies or bad dies and bad chambers is the problem normally.
Bench Rest shooters that I have watched and talked to uses the same brass all weekend.
They Don't anneal. They have custom chambers and dies.
Brass if it isn't over worked does not need to be annealed. That is what they told me.
My three guns have ben chambered with the same reamer. My dies are made with reamer that is a mirror image of the chamber only smaller.
I have 25+ loadings on the same brass and I don't anneal. Go figure. Larry

probably I have annealed these once, I use redding dies, I have all Shilen and krieger barrels, two 30BRs one shilen one krieger, 6BR shilen, 6.5x47 shilen and 308 shilen.

For as long as it lasts, I'll never anneal. Heck if you have to buy $100 worth of brass every 2000 rounds I'd be fine with that!

Yep i'm in your camp now myself.

0.271 neck in all of mine. I anneal once every 10 reloads and it seems to be working fine. I'm not splitting case necks at all and i have done a pretty good job of documenting my loads and keeping track of the brass. All of my boxes of 50 or 100 have 49 or 98 rounds in them where i lose one occasionally. I resist temptation to just add a new one in there so i keep them all together. I should mention that i don't buy and load 100 at a time like a lot of folks do. As a highpower competitor, I buy larger quantities like 1000 - 2000 cases and i prep all of them, and start loading 100-300 at a time and i keep going until i have ALL of them 1x fired. Then i start all over and shoot until they are 2x fired.
This is a great way to keep up with it and much better than just doing a few.
Most folks can get by with 100-200 cases and if you are loading them 20x times +/- they will sure last a long time!

This year I switched from Lapua to Peaterson brass for my 6BR. I had very good luck with Lapua, but Peaterson is also very good brass and is made in the USA. I see no reason to ever go back to Lapu, my gun shoots just as good if not better with the Peaterson. And as all this virus stuff has taught us, made in USA is worth a lot!
