Lapua 220g in 308

Built a 34 inch 10 twist long throated .308 F-class gun to launch the Lapua 220's
Have easy access to Vihtavouri powder.
Any suggestions on starting loads?

I dont have any suggestions for you but I do have a question, why a 220?

I would bet the reason he has chosen the 220 Grain Lapua is for the same reason many F-T/R shooters are beginning to find out the benefits of the shooting the Berger 215 Hybrid. In a 34" barrel, those bullets out of a .308 are absolutely the "King of the Hill" in 600 to 1000 yard F-T/R competition.

Interesting results at the WS in New Mexico shooting 215-230s at high velocity with short mag cases. Not practical for F-Tr string shooting, but here we shoot 3 to a target, with plenty of time to reset between shots.

And, mainly because I have access to lots of the 220s

Short mag cases? what do you mean by that? seated deeply in a 308 win case to fit in a magazine?

I would advise against using 220 in a 308 win. Numbers wise they have great BC but the 308 win doesnt have enough "juice" to get them going at the velocity that gives that much BC.

Guys shooting F-open with WSM and RUM cases shooting 215s and 230s in the 2900fps + range.

N-150 in Lapua Palma brass would be the first combo i'd try if i were testing that bullet with Vihtavuori powder.....It's a single base clean burning and accurate powder. I'm hesitant to suggest a starting load as i've never shot that particular bullet nor know anyone shooting it in FTR.

N150 was going to be my first choice, somewhere in the 40g range. Lapua Palma brass is always the way to go with "max" loads.
Looking for 2300-2400 fps to start.

Sierra lists nearly 42g with their 200s. Going to try to compare bearing surface length.

Norma 168 factory load middle for comparison.
