Lapping Warne Center split ring

Hey guys , looking for help with this one
Warne Maxima 1" high , warne 1 pc base on Rem 700
To lap these rings and remove and install the scope seems almost useless in my mind or will it help?

Anybody with much experience on lapping these center split rings of any type??

With horizontal mounted rings, the upper half is removed, and only the lower is lapped. I don't know how this is possible with the Warne rings.

I had the older Warne Premier rings that were machined steel. They replaced that line with the Maxima line which I believe are sintered steel. I was mounting a Nightforce on a Sako L61R (integral mounts) and I decided to lap the rings. Good thing I did because they were so far off that lapping wasn't really an option and I'm pretty sure they would have left major ring marks. A call to Warne solved the problem when they replaced the rings with the then new Maxixma rings. The new set of rings were very close and I only lapped them to confirm the alignment. I liked the look of the Premier rings because they were polished and blued and the Maxima are matte painted. You can't blue sintered metal.

After that experience, I always lap all rings except the Burris insert rings.

Ok, But my query is.........

If you lap the rings and then completely remove the rings to install the scope after the lapping process then re-install the rings with the optics you are moving the rings and there is no guarantee that they will realign perfectly on the next installation making the lapping useless. With horizontal split rings I know that the rings will stay in the same spot because the bottoms of the rings are not removed. Am i correct on this???

Maybe better just to get the Burris rings with inserts.

i agree with squirrelduster, warne rings are pretty good . they have never left any ring marks on my scopes and hold true. just my .02
