Lancer Lathe

Another lathe question for some of you. I located this Lancer lathe on line for $2,300.00. I hope to visit to see it under power in the near future. Is this a decent lathe for home gun work only? I know I will need to put hands on, but did want to get good opinions on it before I made a call. Thanks for your reply's.

they appear to be a copy of a logan and are considered better than average Taiwan machines. $2300 seems kind of high though considering its got no 4 jaw and no tool post. $1800 would be better assuming that its in good shape imho. that machine is too clean and Fresh paint scares me that it may be a "krylon rebuild"
While you should have no trouble chambering through the headstock, the be is short enough that you wont be doing much barrel profiling with that machine.

I see your from north Florida , I would pass . In my opinion it's way too expensive .

agreed, a quick search of Jacksonville craigslist shows lots of lathes of better quality more suited to gunsmithing than that machine. Southbend 13" Sheldon, Logan, Harrison, etc. Just make sure they run and the spindle hole is at least 1 5/16's or bigger. IN fact there is a Hercules sag17 on there right now. That is an Italian Graizano, basically an Italian equivilant of a monarch. Id be all over that, even with it needing minor repairs.

Looks like a nice one.....maybe befriend a machinist to go along and look with you.
