Laminate vs fiberglass long range BR

I have decided to go with a st1000 tracker but am undecided on going with a laminate or fiberglass. Action is a Borden BR, barrel is going to be a straight 1.25 finished at 28" chambered in 6 dasher. I hear everything about the fiberglass being harder to tune but would love to here from you 600 and 1000 yard benchrest guys.

Thanks much,
Kent

I have both fiberglass and wood laminate. I like both and they both shoot good. I have the Shehane MBR tracker, which has a straighter pistol grip. A lot of shooters like this style better. You should look at both before you buy. Matt

Understand completely. But i'm sticking with the st1000 on this build. I should mention looks do not matter as far as appearance. Either one is going to be dipped.
Thanks again

If you'll be shooting free-recoil style, then I say flip a coin or choose the least expensive. If you're going to have your face against the stock, then I say laminated wood. It may be just my imagination, but I think laminated wood dampens the shockwave better before it gets into your face/cheekbone/jaw.

In other words, I think it's more comfortable on the face to shoot a laminated wood vs. fiberglass stock. However, I do use both, and will continue to do so. 8)

My Dasher wears the ST-1000 fiberglass - it is a great stock with the long forend.

They do have a "solid fill" (material unknown to me) in parts of the stock (forend, action cradle). Mine is pillared and bedded and I've never had an issue with it going out of tune or having problems with torque values on the action screws.

If weight is a concern, laminates weigh about a pound more.

I prefer fiberglass, as the wood in laminates is fairly soft.

Fiberglass. His wood do not have a reputation for being the straightest.
Precision rifle and tool makes a stock similar thats called a tear drop. I would go with that. They are higher quality. I have worked with both. But if you must have a st1000 let Mcmillian make it.
