I am in process of a build, just got my call from BAT) and intend on using a laminate stock in the MBR Tooley profile. My dilemma is I would like to experiment with stains & clears to obtain the color tones I want prior to making my final selection.
I have called Rutland, they said call Boyds. The person at Boyds I was directed to will not return my phone calls. From some of the stock makers I talk to there is seldom any scraps left over and I have searched the web endlessy. I can find plenty of turning blanks or grip blanks in the desired colors, but only in "Dymonwood" and not "Stratabond". Talking with Bill Shehane, no way can I make LG weight with a dymonwood stock, too dense. But I am wondering if I obtain dymonwood and find the colortone, how much different it would be from stratabond, due to the density difference in the layup.
I am looking any suggestions, pointers, hints, etc... I am looking to use either a Brown/Black layup or a Red/Black layup.
Thanks..
