Lake City sort by year question

If you buy once fired LC brass which has been sorted so it is all the same year how many different production runs are you likely getting? I imagine it would be less consistent than new LC brass which would be all from the same production run.

What type of variations are typically seen amongst the various years?

I have about 700 LC mixed head stamp. Would I gain more consistency by weight sorting vs. year sorting?

When you consider the number of loaded rounds (3.5 million) of 5.56 ammo Lake City produces per day, I would imagine tens of millions of pieces of brass are made in one lot. Maybe much more.

Sort by weight - the year means nothing, as they have bunches of machines running, and nothing changes on January 1st, that effects the cases.

From the archives:

LC-02 case weight - 93gr.
LC-04 case weight - 93gr.
LC-06 case weight - 92gr.

I have LC-09 once fired, and new unfired LC-11, but haven't weighed them.

On my 223 I separated by year and brass weight. Shot 5 each at 300yd there was no difference in point of impact, so I do not attempt to segregate. You may want to consider a similar quick evaluation.

+1

They would have to be pretty close to meet military specifications.
