Lake City Brass?

I have about 1000 cases of once fired 2007 Lake City brass in 5.45/.223. I have removed the primer crimp, sized, trimmed, deburred the flash holes and reamed the primer pockets. The brass seems to be pretty decent with centered flash holes, consistent weights, etc.

Do you think this brass would be pretty decent for building loads on for punching paper out to 300 or should I invest in some Lapua?

Maybe I should have asked this question prior to doing all that work. :o

Thanks.

There are ppl that use it at the Nationals all the time and shoot absolutely great groups with it. Don't worry about it, just do good prep work, keep the brass in close lots in weight and you will be fine.

Unless your getting real serious about very small groups, like in compation bench shooting, the LC brass will do an excellant job for you. In fact I doubt that with proper prep you would see any difference in the groups size between the LC and Lapua brass.

Try sorting the stuff into at least the same year class, they seem to have a little different volume with different runs.

I use LC brass only with loads for my Rem. 700 .223.I sort by year and then by weight.Prep is a good tumble cleaning and clean up the flashhole.Beyond that it is up to you.My .223 shoots in the 2`s consistently. But as everything else in life, it is what you want to do, and how much you want to spend. Good luck. outasite`08

Thanks, I have sorted by year, FL sized, trimmed and chamfered, uniformed the primer pockets, deburred the flash holes. I weighed a few cases but they seemed so close I didn't bother to weigh them all. I continue to read two schools of thought on weighing. Some seem to think it works wonders, others seem to think it does not do much at all. My guess is that checking neck wall thickness is a much better measure to segregate brass, but I am not sure I want to do that either. :-\

For about $50 I would buy 100 rounds of Lapua brass and find out for sure. If you don't, you are going to be sitting there thinking about it until you do. I can almost promise you that.....even if you get decent groups with the Lake City brass....it will be at the back of your mind....how much better could the groups be if I was using Lapua brass.

Just screwing with you, but now I bet you are thinking about it. It is a sickness.

DANG YOU OTTER! ;D

I can't tell you how many times I have had the Lapua brass in and out of my Midway shopping cart!

I gave been using LC brass gn my .223 AI with greaw results. The stuf fireforms nicelyand the rifle is shooting in the mid 3s

I think you should just give it all to me and I will let you know how it shoots. :P

All kidding aside I think you will be fine. MOre than one guy I know get .500 groups or lower with LC brass at 200 yards.

I've had good luck luck with LC, it needs full prep, but other than that has been great. The Lapua may have a slight edge, but unless you are shooting in top comp, I don't think you need to go with Lapua.

New LC is available fromNatchez very reasonable, new.

My Best, John K

Senario,

You are shooting in a Match, you lose some brass, if it's lake city you just go home, if it's Lapua you stay with a flashlight and cry.
