Will using a magnetospeed have a undesirable effect on my test?
Myself have done it both ways, and find both ways works, but have came to the opinion that tuner off for initial load development has worked better for me, that consequently keeps the tuner more honest and repeatable. If youre going to shoot with it on then install it first. If you dont do your load development with your barrel in the configuration that you will shoot it in then why even bother developing a load? Just dont fiddle with it in the middle of doing your load work up....
Link! NO! Do the ladder with nothing on the barrel, then tweak it with the tuner, then record the velocity with the magnetospeed, then take the magnetospeed off..... forever.
You are fooling with barrel harmonics, anything on the barrel, even your finger, will change them. The barrel vibrates and you are trying to get the bullet to exit the muzzle at the same point of vibration every shot....... that's the reason for the ladder test.
