Labradar Vs Magnetospeed

My LR and LG Phone don't work well together, but my Samsung Tablet works.
My Samsung Galaxy Tab4 Tablet works flawlessly with the LabRadar and the V3AT. The only problem with taking it to the range is. It is just to big to have set up on the benches, at the range, along with the LabRadar.
It is super nice to have the large screen, but counter productive. I prefer the smaller size S7. Just Me.

I only want to cry once. I need pros and cons
My view is this. After a big learning curve with the LabRadar's set up, and buying a remote Trigger. I want count the hours of learning to use Excel, Effectively. ( My choice on that one. ) ,,,, The Magneto Speed will give you good readings, provided you have it set up properly and secure, where it doesn't shift during your session. The biggest down fall is, if you have it mounted directly to your barrel it will affect your point of impact. Then, you will have to shoot the group over again with out the magneto speed to see where your groups are really hitting. That means Double the AMMO. Who has Ammo to waste in todays times.
That's another big reason you need to buy a remote trigger of your choice. I use the JKL Precision Trigger.
This is a must have, or you run the risk of missing shots because the labRadar did not pick it up when you fired the shot. Keep in mind that each one has it's Pro and Cons. Me, I'll take the Labradar over the Magneto Speed any day of the week. JM2CW.

Labradar Trigger – JKL PRECISION

If I could have a beer with the designers of the LabRadar, I'd surely take them to task for what I'll gently call a "clunky" user interface, an incomplete mobile app (it's missing "imperial" measurements), and a narrow and touchy operating realm... outside of which things don't work so well.

But to the shooter who commits himself to understanding how it works and how it has to be set up... it is a game changer. It makes it so bloody simple to get consistent, accurate chronograph stats that I can hardly imagine shooting without it. It has become as much a part of my everyday shooting kit as my eye and ear protection.

Whenever I want an honest self-assessment of what I think of something, I ask myself "what would you do if the one you have broke, or was stolen?" And the quick answer with the LabRadar is... I'd be online the next day ordering another.

The LabRadar costs more than it ought to. But the 30-seconds-to-a-minute setup and teardown on each end of a shooting session is what you're paying for. Well, that and its accuracy.

For me, that's priceless.

I run my Labradar on a bench and prone. I also shoot a wide variety of calibers, 223, 308, 6mm, 6.7, 7mm, 284, 22LR, 300 NM. I use bluetooth on an Iphone 11 and Ipad Pro. Until I stumbled upon the JKL Trigger I had some issues. Been using the JKL for about 10’ish months and 100% zero complaints now with the Labradar. I also added the Ackron Mount/Feet prone, they work very well for bench too.

That’s my prospective. I have zero experience with Magneto. I researched both pretty extensively before I purchased my Labradar and for me the Labradar hands down.

When I bought a Labradar I believed one of the advantages would be that I could use it when shooting prone. In practice however I found that it is hard if not impossible to operate the unit because it was far forward of the trigger when you are laying flat. For my ProChrono I just made a small T shaped wooden base with a $20 tripod head attached for using it prone, my prone shooting problem was solved

With my $125 Prochrono I control it remotely with my tablet, change strings, read data and upload the data to my computer in a spreadsheet form via email. I love it.. Much easier to operate than the LR which costs 5 times as much. Why LR designed their unit as they did I have no clue, it is clunky at best

My big question is if there is no advantage to bluetooth operation then why then did Labradar even bother putting a bluetooth controller feature in it ? Second question is why can't they get it to work properly? I have bluetooth speakers, headphones, drones etc and have never had any issues with any phone or tablet I decide to use with them. This has been a ongoing problem with LR's for several years now.
Ok, yep...it can be a stretch to reach those buttons. I guess I never thought of it that way. Bluetooth control would be a nice feature.

I really have no clue on why the designers did not separate the controls from the transmitting and receiving antennae. A simple hardwired box containing the controls and a rechargeable battery pack would be so simple to implement. Do that and include a recoil activated trigger switch so it would work for anything from a air rifle to a 300 Win mag without having to buy a bunch of accessories. Those simple changes might convince me to give it a second chance. I am a tech addict, have been for over 50 years now and I love the concept of the LR, just hate the implementation

and patriot my tablet is a Samsung Tab A, model SMT-550. A bit long in the tooth but it connects just fine with my wireless patio speakers, my brand new bluetooth headphones, my stereo amp, and several small toy drones. I also had a Samsung S-7 at the time and my daughters old Iphone 6. None of which would connect more than once no matter how many times I unpaired and tried to pair the LR to them. Tried with my neighbors Iphone (unknown model) also and it did the same thing

Maybe mine was just a lemon, but I have no desire to spend another 600 + bucks just to find out

For now I'm using a JKL trigger, and that lets me position the LabRadar within convenient reach so I can use the buttons. I have a new LG smartphone and it doesn't connect reliably. Apparently there is a new generation of chips for Bluetooth, and no recent phone is going to work; LabRadar knows they have a problem and haven't allocated the necessary resources to fix it (probably software, not hardware). Until sales drop off it isn't likely that LabRadar will fix it. I can work without Bluetooth, but I don't like the front panel interface. The app interface looks better, but they shouldn't advertise it until it works again - the fact that it did once upon a time isn't sufficient; those with a phone newer than 4 years old are screwed and LabRadar is well aware of it.

Good to know. With my at&t version there could be a big difference in the models. If you still have access to it, try this. With mine, it will not pair in the phones system/connection/Bluetooth. I don't care what kind of voodoo I use on it.
BUT.. I can open the LabRadar app., and hit search, and it pairs every time. If you still have access to it. Please give it try and let me know if it was successful. If not,, there are other posters having good luck with other smaller devices. My Samsung tab4 works great with the Labrador, but it's just to big and adds to much clutter to the bench. Just me.

Brownells refunded my money long ago but I did try and connect to a friends at the range several weeks back. He had just bought the LR and could not get it to connect. I told him my story and wanted to see if my phone would connect. He had a older model Iphone, I have a newer model Motorola Moto phone so I DL'ed and installed the software but had no luck connecting. Glad your works so well, the LR just seems to hate me lol.

If they ever redesign the LR and if my optical died I might consider trying one again. But then again the ProChrono does everything I need for less than 1/5 the price so I would probably just get another ProChrono

I've been told when using the LR app NOT to hit the "pair" option on your device. Just make sure that the Bluetooth on your device 'sees' the LR. I have a recent Motorola phone that will connect but it does disconnect and sometimes and I can connect and sometimes not.

BTW, LR should get rid of the large battery compartment and use it to hold a rechargeable battery and useful circuits/buttons to manipulate the options much easier or a larger screen to display graphs. The LR eats those batteries in a couple of hours.

As mentioned before, the external trigger devices can be triggered by closing the bolt on a semiauto such as AR15.

I have had my Labradar for several years, and I have used it with an iphone 10 and an iphone 12. It connects easily to the bluetooth, and operating the system to add another series, or looking at the series or individual shot data is very easy on the iphone.

I do not have a trigger on the LR, I set up the muzzle about inch or two in front of the LR and about an inch or two to the side, and have it on the 6" setting. Works very reliably.

For some folks, spending a little time looking at YouTube videos on the LabRadar can be informative ONCE YOU GET PAST all the arm waving, self back patting and commercials!

Yes it will. You have to turn down the sensitivity in system settings. Turn it down to 5 and work your way down. If that does not help. It is your trigger. I had to replace one JKL trigger because of the same problem.
Regardless of how low I set the sensitivity it would record a shot when the bolt closed on my AR and Bolt rifles. I sent it back with no questions, really asked. I had the new one in a matter of days.

It was a toss up between the two. But at my gunrange we have to shoot thru 48" steel culverts to the target. I called the people at Labradar and asked if this would impede readings. They confirmed that their Labradar would NOT work in this situation. So went with Magnetospeed and very satisfied.

Magnetospeed is stupid easy, cheaper and smaller. I mostly run it free-floating now, so it doesn't mess with zero or groups. It's not perfect, but neither is the Labradar. I also had one good customer service warranty experience w/ Magnetospeed.

Hi.
How do you run your Magnetospeed free floating? I'm interested because when attached to my barrel the MPI varies.
